Recently someone started a "POST YOUR SHADOW" thread and the resulting pictures were awesome. I was rather hung up on discarded boots and shoes and photographed them at every opportunity. My favorite is this pair I saw as I approached Cirauqui (Navarra). Anyone else have some good footwear pics?

from the Portuguese last September.
Reminds me of this adorable little Asian man walking towards us Peregrinos headed to SDC. He was so cute...he had a piece of paper safety pinned to his shirt on which, he had drawn a big blue arrow (pointing straight up). He was going to Fatima. I gave him a thumbs up...he nodded and continued upstream like Salmon. 😁

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
If you want to photograph abandoned boots or shoes, please follow this up with either finding a second use for the footwear or carrying it to a suitable place to dispose of it. We don't want to encourage bad habits. However, I do see how a photo of footwear tells the story of a long walk.

This was in April 2019 on the Via Francigena just outside Ponte D’Arbia.

Before Camino and After Camino - These aren't the same pair of shoes, but each year I buy a pair of New Balance shoes. They look all shiny and new at the beginning and by the time I leave (usually after walking 5-6 weeks) they are being held together with duct tape! lol! I still love them for their wide, high toe box, support, and comfort.

I only now discovered this thread as I was on the Camino when it started so missed it...I'm loving it now!
Here are my shoes on the Primitivo. I'd noticed how they were the same color as the slate bluestone even before they got dirty.

Here are a pair of wooden "Dutch" garden shoes. I was very surprised they are still used in the 21st century...and a gentleman modeling them for me when I asked for a picture.

un-con-soleable!?
Good pun! I'm glad this thread got resurrected as there is such a variety of shoes and each pair tells a different story.
This photo of colorful crocs was taken on the Le Puy route. The only place I have ever stayed where the owner provided these shoes to wear in her gite after removing pilgrim dusty/dirty trail shoes.

I seem to actually have very few pictures of shoes….instead, I have tons of pictures of my feet soaking in water: streams, pools, rivers. 🤣

So, here is a picture from my second Camino of a puppy curled up beside my shoe, as well as a picture from the end of my last Camino. Yes, the latter is shoeless, but it is probably my favorite picture from last Summer.

The very first (and yes, the most special) Camino, CF 2016. Towards the end the shoes were so "holy" that the sand and dust got in. However, they made it.
