public transport from Santiago to Porto in October

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
There are both bus and train services that will do this, depending on where you want to end up in Porto. Train is slightly more complicated because there are two different train stations in Vigo, and you will need to get between them. More, the train doesn't go directly to the airport, but will take you to Campanha, and there are then metro and bus services to the airport. The ALSA bus makes a stop at the airport, then goes to the inter-nodal station at Campanha.

My take: the bus is generally simpler, but isn't as comfortable as the train, and generally cheaper if you do the bookings a few days in advance.

You can buy a Tarjeta Dorada (Discount card for seniors on the national rail network) at the railway stations. The card costs €6, discounts are around 33% so do the maths. I'm not aware of any similar arrangement for the major bus companies. For discounts entering museums and the ilk a passport may be requested. Most of the time the clerk just seems to count my wrinkles.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Don’t know if this helps but we spent several weeks in Portugal and did not need special cards for seniors discounts on the trains , just passports showing date of birth. 50% off, a great bargain.
That's exactly how it works in Portugal

If there is a senior discount, you only need an official form of ID (with your date of birth) in order to get that discount

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

This was my experience earlier this year in Portugal when using a booking office. In addition, when I booked online I also claimed the discount without any issues.

Marion I are starting the Portuguese Camino in September and want to get back to Porto in mid October.
Suggestions please
I have gone by bus twice from SdeC to Porto and it is a nice easy trip. Takes about 4 hours.
