Quickest mode of transport from Bilbao to Sarria

Hi I'm starting my Camino journey from Sarria, flying into Bilbao. Would be very grateful if anyone can help as to the best way to get to Sarria by public transport??? many thanks Chris

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
You could fly to Santiago - about €160 on Iberia - and then take a taxi to Sarria. That would be the quickest way.

There is one train a day at 9h15 to Santiago - takes 10 hours 45 mins so arrives at 20h00. Costs €47

There are 3 buses a day to Sarria - all go to Lugo first where you change to a local bus to Sarria. They take between 10 hrs 30 min and 11 hrs 30 min.
If you leave Bilbao at 01h45am you'll get to Sarria at 12h30 the next day.
If you leave Bilbao at 10h45 you get to Sarria at 21h15.

If you are travelling in Spring or summer, it doesn't get dark until about 10:00pm so you'll still be OK getting there at 21h15.

I've been poking around Renfe.com and noticed that there appears to be a train station in Sarria. Currently, my plan is to take the train from Bilbao to Monforte de Lemos, and take another train to Sarria from there. I'm still not 100% sure if this works, but that's my plan so far. (If anyone notices a flaw in my logic, please point it out! Renfe.com is kind of a finicky site, and my Spanish isn't great.)

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Thanks for that, I looked at these details too, as don't arrive in Bilbao till afternoon no way can get train or buses. Have changed route to the Northern Way Bilbao to Santander so can start the walk next day.

Hi SaraC
Thanks for your reply. Yep looked at the Renfe.com site like you, and like you wasn't very happy with the details I was getting, definitely a finicky site as you say. As replied to sillydoll have now changed route to do Northern Way Bilbao to Santander - see how that goes, will let you know after return! Hope you have a good walk!
