rain poncho / shelter recomendations

I intend to 'sleep rough' several times while walking my camino. Can anyone provide a recomendation for a rain ponco which can be used to construct a shelter?

I am a large guy (6ft 4/280) so any poncho I use will need be a large one.

If you don't have the experience to 'sleep rough' ... which I infer is the case by your question ... the camino isn't the place to acquire said experience.

Good bivouac gear costs bucks. When you consider the cost of staying at an albergue vs the cost of bivouac gear ... the albergue is a bargain.

I have roughed it in self-made shelters (in the summer and the winter, no less) and under the open sky with only a ground cover. Just havent done so with a poncho type equipment.

I have a Sea to Summit tarp poncho and there are numerous films on Youtube showing how to set it up as a shelter. I have never used it as such, but if you want to try it out you can see if it is still available. I bought mine some years ago and am very satisfied with it as a poncho.

Not sure when you are travelling or which route but if it's CF in September you're bound to have some good nights where no shelter is neeed. I took a SOS bivvy bag but I could have done it with just a sleeping bag/mat.

Honestly, I suggest you sleep out when the weather is good and find an albergue when it's raining for your own sanity and to save you the weight.
