Recharging my Iphone ??

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Welcome to the Forum, Paul. As far as I know, there is no problem finding an electrical outlet to charge your phone. Be sure you take a suitable adapter (you didn't mention where you're from), and it helps if your adapter has multiple receptacles so others can share - your fellow pilgrims will be grateful. There have been pilgrims who have left their phones charging overnight with no ill consequences but, personally, I would not risk that.

Word of warning: I encountered some electrical outlets that are 'recessed' and it is very easy to unplug your phone and neglect to remove also the adapter. Buen Camino :)

Do watch your phone wherever it may be while it is charging. In addition to power points within albergues you will find them available in other public places such as bars or restos. Do purchase a drink or meal and always ask before using these.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

I prefer to recharge a battery bank from power outlets, rather than the phone itself. Less exposure to theft. It also provides more than one charge.

I used a power bank -excellent!
.....especially if you combine it with a portable/foldable solar cell panel that you can fix to your rucksack!;)

Btw: Adapter, if you need one, depending from where come: I would recommend to purchase an original European USB charging plug from Apple in Spain (Retail store list see http://www.apple.com/es/retail/storelist/) or France (list at http://www.apple.com/fr/retail/storelist/), you may also find it in Telecom Provider shops (where you also can buy local SIM cards) and in some of the many Chinese Supermercados along the way. Adapters add to weight and can be cumbersome due to lack of plug-in space when the socket is suckled by many other phones.

I saw 8 phones get snatched in a blink of an eye in Leone. If you leave it & walk away it may not be there when you get back. There seemed to be quite a black market for them. In the bigger alburgues they have lots of people & doorways in & out.

Just love how the some of the new albergues have an individual plug by each headboard, sometimes also with a light and small shelf. Very handy for recharging while resting and feeling you know where your ohine is at all times.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Do invest in a battery pack to plug in when you get to the Albergue, and not the iPhone / smartphone.
Have invested in low cost battery pack, and a solar panel to charge it on the rucksack. Cost very little compared to the catastrophee of losing your phone with all your contacts and info...
A battery pack can have 4000 to 9500 mAh and it takes 2500 mAh to charge your phone.
