Can anyone advise me on how to get a room booked at Refuge Orisson in mid April 18. I have emailed them (in English). Their site is in French. No reply? Any valued input much appreciated.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Just curious, do they have single or twin rooms at Orisson? We slept in a dormitory for 6.

Yes, They have a few double rooms....We stayed in one three years ago. Hang in there.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

I’m sure your email will be answered in good time. We got a French speaking person to phone ( from Australia). Orisson was full but there is an overflow house at Kayola about 1 kilometre before Orisson they will book you into in that case. Good idea to plan so early as Orisson is at a premium even early in the season. We went same time as you in 2016 and I knew I couldn’t walk to Roncesvalles on the first day. Buen Camino!

Hola
Two answers to your question: 1. they are probably closed for a few weeks rest & recovery;
2. use google translator - write your email as you normally would in English (or your native language) and have GT translate it into French. Then copy both versions into your email message and away it goes. You should get a response within 5 days, they will provide a link to their Pay Pal account for you to pay - yes in advance!! Its around Euro 30 for the night inc bed, shower (5 mins of hot water) and the evening meal. Buen Camino!!;)

Somebody will eventually answer the phone or respond to your email! I think they close down at this time of year and sporadically attend to messages. Very frustrating, have been there and always the same conundrum in booking. However keep trying, its a great place to start, meet people and pick up the Camino spirit. Buen Camino, Paddy
