Each time I have been on Camino I am moved by the memorials to the departed Pilgrims in so many places along the way.I always say a prayer as I pass and one in particular at Moratinos I pause in remembrance as I knew Phil, known as The Methodist Pilgrim, who gave me much advice and encouragement prior to my first journey on The Way.We hoped to meet on route but Phil passed away before we met again. Thinking of all this I wrote a poem I posted some years ago on the Forum and which I say again each year's end,and which I now post again in memory of all.
There is a secret staircase
Way above the clouds
That last day of December
Reaches to the ground
On each step stands a pilgrim
Who once walked the way
From a thousand years ago
Up until today
Some are dressed as peasants
Some are dressed as lords
Some as Templar soldiers
Complete with shield and sword
All stand at attention
As a tribute from the past
To this year's fallen pilgrims
Slowly walking past
And the souls of all those pilgrims
Climb the stairs above
And smiling walk through Heaven's gate
To wait for those they love.

A beautiful poem.....brought a tear to my eye. Like you I have stopped at every memorial and said ‘Enternal rest grant to them O Lord, May they rest in peace, and may the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Round the corner and up the hill from the Pilgrims Office in Santiago, about 50m away, is the Faculty of Medicine's huge cafeteria that must be able to seat between 200 and 300 people. They have a...
Here is a pic from 2016, I love the simplicity of the sketch map and directions "1 km climb up, 5km flat, 5km down". I wonder how the prices are now?
In 2018, I completed my first Camino de Santiago. Those 34 days were magical, filled with stunning landscapes and connections with fellow pilgrims from around the world. What was meant to be a...
Well sorry for the long absence! I dropped offline and into Camino life and can't wait to go back (but unfortunately it won't be soon)! I won't say the Camino was an easy experience for me, or...
For my fellow Jewish Pilgrims do try to remember that this coming Tuesday evening is our Shavuot holiday, not one but two days. Shavuot is one of the required Jewish pilgrimages, totally...
Hi all. I will be walking the Camino Frances in September ( I started in Le Puy in 2022 and will “finish” this year!) and hope to stay at the ALBERGUE Peregrinos Ribadiso around September 21. I’m...
