Resuming from Santa Domingo de la Calzada

Time of past OR future Camino
Past: SJPdP -> Santo Domingo de la Calzada
Future: Santo Domingo de la Calzada -> Santiago
This April I am planning to resume from where I left off back in 2013. I am flying out from San Francisco Bay Area to get to my previous stopping point of Santa Domingo. From what I can see, the best route may be a nonstop from Oakland Airport to Barcelona and take a train to Burgos and bus from there to Santa Domingo.

Can anyone suggest a better route or specifics on airlines/train/bus?

On my previous walk, I flew from SFO to CDG and flew from ORY to BIQ, and train to SJPD. And from Santa Domingo, I took a bus to Burgos and train from Burgos to Hendaye, and bus back to the BIQ airport.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Consider Madrid. Peg and I went to Barcelona and then took a train to Pamplona to start from SJPdP. But that was a few years ago. There may be some unrest in Barcelona this year. Not likely anything dangerous but perhaps strikes might cause some disruption in travel plans. But then Barcelona is a great place to spend a few days. :)

I also think Madrid may be easier, having done something similar in 2014.

I may also be walking from Santa Domingo in April. The plan would be to walk to Leon.
In looking at transportation, the best for me seems to fly from Norfolk, VA to Madrid and bus from Madrid to Santa Domingo.

I suggest you fly into Madrid, train or bus to Burgos, then a bus to Santa Domingo.

Please note that the RENFE train station in Burgos is located several miles northeast outside of the main city. The ALSA bus station is located on the south side of the river. For connection, you will need to get a taxi or city bus. When the city bus arrives near the city center, you may need to switch to a different city bus to get to the ALSA bus station across the river.

Burgos is a wonderful place to spend a night after a long flight.

Thanks everyone! Looks like the consensus is fly to Madrid. I will check into this route.
