Rota Vincenta
Hi.
I am looking at doing the Rota Vicentina ( Fisherman's trail) this December.
I want to take my boy with me. He is 10 and pretty used to strenuous weekend hikes but has never done a Thru-hike.
I know December will be low season and the weather might not be great, but it is the only time we have 12 days to do it.

Any other reason that it would not be a good idea?

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

€60,-
As you may already know, there’s quite a loft of sand-dune walking on the RV. Personally I didn’t mind this but some people find it difficult because you’re often lifting your feet out of deep sand, have lots of sand in your shoes etc. I’d think your son might enjoy it but you never know. It’s a pretty remote walk most of the time so there won’t be many things to entertain him (ie frequent stops for drinks etc) besides the nature.

But it’s a beautiful walk and with any luck you’ll get some nice weather days and will have a great experience with your son.

I’m in Sagres now, having walked from Milfontes. I’d be concerned about the fall hazards. Portions of the trail are mere 18 inches from the edge. If your comfortable he can handle that and the sand, then perhaps…

I took my boys on hikes. With the youngest I kept a line on him and he did fine. Better to be safe. Kids are resilient and will adapt to you for the most part. Sound like he has se experience already
