Thank you. I now have my return tickets to Spain and should send an email to San Martin Pinario to book my room: for the end of November, so there may still be available spaces. I have no idea how to check on this online for the pilgrim rooms. Could you post this please?

You have to send an email for the albergue rooms.
reservas@sanmartinpinario.eu

I know that there have been disagreements in the past when forum members made an online reservation and then were mad to find they had been placed in the regular hotel rooms, which are more expensive.

So if you want an albergue room, do not book online, write directly.

My email has gone. I have stayed there on all four previous caminos. But I shall not be too distressed if there is no space available. Change and adjustment are the key words for this year's covid camino, and maybe what I have to learn. Wish me luck (one way or another).

The more I read about problems with accommodation and how busy it will be once things open up the more I’m convinced that I had better start practising my old trick of sleeping upright! I’ve already taught myself to sleep on hard surfaces but by golly it sounds like that simply won’t be enough. I admire your determination and hope it all goes ahead with ease and as planned. September is just around the corner.

I have received my reply already, and there are no vacancies for my dates in the pilgrim rooms. I suspect that San Martin Pinario has been making a lot of group bookings. It will be interesting to see what else I can find in Santiago.

You were lucky, it happens! 🙂
I'm looking back over my email exchange, and on June 21, 2019 I emailed requesting two rooms for two nights for the nights of June 24 and 25 for myself and a friend, and was able to reserve both. Then again on September 9th of 2019 I reserved for a room for one night on 14th! So I was lucky twice in one year!

I have found another place to stay, a single room and private bath in PR Pazo de Agra, just around the corner from Pilgrim House and about 300m. from the Cathedral. It is between the Cathedral and the train/bus depot, which will be handy for my departure. I like what I see online, but will reserve judgement until after my stay. Booked on booking.com

I stayed at Pazo de Agra after my first Camino. It was in a good location, and comfortable. The only downside was that the private bathroom for my room was located either across or down the hall (I don't remember which) But the price was right!

I am not too delighted at the location of the private bathroom, but the information given indicates that the bathroom actually has a bathtub. I'll believe it when I fill it with hot water and crawl in. Seeing it is not enough, as a bathtub without hot water to fill it is just a temptation left unfulfilled. But maybe!

I don't remember whether or not there was a bathtub - I was there for one night after my first Camino, before I walked to Finisterre, and I stayed in a couple of other places with private baths outside my room. I do remember a bathtub in one of them that was quite small, but still a bathtub nonetheless. However, looking at pictures on the Booking.com listings it seems that the bathrooms may have been remodeled with a stall shower. https://www.booking.com/hotel/es/pe...type=total;ucfs=1;sig=v1gf9wWbuc#room_9739202

I hope that you do find your bathtub!

I noticed that. But I live in hope. The mention of a bathtub was made in a description of the room which I had booked, so I think it must be considered to be an asset, even though it may not actually exist. Anyway, there is also a balcony. But general comfort and quiet are what I am hoping for.

Something to consider. When I sent an email request for a pilgrim room 2 months before my last camino, I received a reply that they were full on my requested dates but to check back because they often had cancellations. I tried again in a month and there was availability!

Hola Laurie - I stayed here back in 2013. Since then (2015 & 2017) its always been totally book - both the alberque section and the "hotel" rooms. Still I try to have lunch here at least once on a visit to SDC. Cheers

Perhaps @peregrina2000 means the bookings of the regular guest rooms at San Martín Pinario? As a bellwether of how busy the season may turn out to be?

It is rather odd: On their own website, they announce that there is No availability from September 16 to October 31.

You can consult their availability for bookings by calendar month. The only available date for bookings in September is the 15th.

July and August look like this:

that is fantastic news (you coming to Santiago, not the issue with San Martin Pinario).

I must say it sounds quite odd; they must have some big group booking for some event or something... There is always the regular rooms, a bit more expensive, but still good value considering where you are located.

Buen camino, compañera!!!

that looks like those dates might not be open yet for some reason, I guess. There are probably hundreds of rooms (cells springs to mind as a more suitable term to describe the accoomodation) in that old, majestic building!

Only about 100 bookable cells apparently ☺️. We stayed in one of them in 2019 for €71 and just loved it. Very small and Spartan but you had also your own tiny bath/shower room. The ideal combination of austerity and comfort for me.

I wonder whether the booking situation at San Martín Pinario is typical for the hotel room situation in Compostela?

There is an interesting older article about the hospederia business side of San Martín Pinario in La Voz de Galicia, from 2014.

I have succesfully booked a basic pilgrim room at approx Eur 30 in 2020 at the Hospederia twice, booking by phone. You have to call at a time when the reception is not too busy. This is the number: 0034981560282. Try three or four times until you get a connection. What I of course don’t know is whether also the pilgrim rooms are already fully booked in October.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

I sent an email to them a couple of days ago, saying that I was a pilgrim and requesting a room for certain days. I was told that none was available for my dates in late November. Now I am wondering if my email, carefully constructed in Spanish and identical to those which I sent before four previous stays, was misunderstood, because I did not specifically request a room on the pilgrim floor.

When I emailed them in 2019 I wrote in English and received a prompt reply.
This is what I sent.

I would like to reserve two pilgrim rooms for two nights each. Arriving Monday, 24 June. Departing Wednesday, 26 June.

They responded back with this

Good afternoon,
Thanks for thinking in Hospedería San Martín Pinario. At the moment there is availability for the requested day. Here we have two different kinds of rooms:
*Standard room (new rooms refurnished):
- Twin or double room with breakfast included: 70€ (per night)
- Single room with breakfast included: 50€ (per night)
*Pilgrim room (old rooms not refurnished since 40 years ago with toilet inside):
- Single room with breakfast included: 25€ (per night)
In order to make the booking we need a contact number (also with de country code) and a credit card number with the expiry date, only as a guarantee of the reservation.
Kind regards and waiting for your news,

Well, I have another reservation now, although it can be cancelled without charge until two days before. And I am so overwhelmed by other requirements and regulations, most of which I do not understand and half of which appear impossible to fulfill, that I don't see much point in changing the reservation that I already have.

I quite agree. I was a little frantic for a while because the information on the London Heathrow website and that on the British government website didn't seem to make much sense. I was thinking that, if I wanted to change my booking through London Heathrow, I would have to do so right away and every effort to find out what was going on seemed to fail. Now, I have decided that I shall leave it for another month and try again. In three months from now, I'll be in Spain, just setting out on the Levante from Valencia, if all goes well. I don't seem to be able to do much about it except to try to possess my soul with patience, which is not my first gift.

I hope all those that plan to walk this year have a fantastic time. From UK I am not even sure when we will be able to go to Spain. However, it holds little attraction to me while these restrictions are in force. One of my primary joys of the camino is being able to walk each day without worrying to much where I will be staying. I to have often stayed at the San Martin Pinario but normally only book a day or 2 before my arrival!

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I just love that they make it a point to say that their pilgrim rooms haven't been refurnished since 40 years ago. That already makes someone pause and imagine what the room is like! And - having seen the rooms themselves - they definitely seem like they're from the 70's or 80's. But they are cozy and fine :) :)

It is a seminario, old building where they use to teach priests to became priests, you have the opportunity to choose a private room, however the bathrooms and showers are down the hall. They also have an store and kitchen one floor below the registration place. Buen camino

While this thread is primarily about San Martín Pinario, @yolanda Mejia was talking about Albergue Semanario Menor, which is a little over a km from the Cathedral.

I’m now thinking that an October Camino might too soon to travel without a lot of complications, so will likely cancel our pilgrim room in San Martin de Pinaro. So those of you who have found no vacancy, that could easily change.

Ok I've tried calling them for the last 2 days, I was finally able to get my booking booked. The trick is to call them at 2100H Spain time. Thats the time they are least busy. you can also email them at reservas@sanmartinpinario.eu and send back your sensitive info which i did not like as it is very unsecure over email to book. hope this helps

In the past when I've sent an email to them when I know my arrival date, and they ask for my cc #, I send it in two or three separate emails, but have never known if this is secure or not? Do you know? Thanks! - either way!

with the advent of cyber security concerns recently around the world and with a certain recent hacker just recently posted 8 Billion accounts with passwords in a text file compromised, I dont know if both the source and destination servers are secured. Even MFAs can be compromised if its sent over SMS.

Well there was certainly no problem getting a room in San Martin Pinario today! I had previously booked by email for June 18 and 19 then changed to 17 and 18 but ended up arriving in Santiago today. I couldn't get them on the phone during the day so I just walked in at 5 p.m. today and voilà, there was no problem getting a pilgrim room on the spot.

LTfit,
How lucky you are. I always enjoyed staying there. Their formal meals were very good and a good value. Enjoy your stay.

Wow, lucky lucky LTfit! What are you going to do with your extra days? I suppose you could walk the full Santiago Finisterre circle. ENJOY and congrats on your arrival!
I'm not sure. I originally wanted to walk to Finisterre and Muxía but will take tomorrow off in Santiago and figure out this whole PCR test thing which I still need to return to The Netherlands even though I have been vaccinated twice.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

I stayed at Pazo de Agra after my first Camino. It was in a good location, and comfortable. The only downside was that the private bathroom for my room was located either across or down the hall (I don't remember which) But the price was right!
I just booked Pazo de Agra for 3 nights (25/June - 28/June) and got what was advertized as "double room (double or 2 twin beds) with PRIVATE BATHROOM
Are you saying it is not in the room proper? o_O

Check your booking.

They have two categories of double rooms. It sounds like you have the one that's listed as Double or Twin Room - I believe that will have the bathroom attached.

For the single rooms the private bathroom is located across the hall or next to the room, and they give you a whole jumble of keys - for your the building, your room, and your bathroom.

On the listing for the Double or Twin Room with Extra Bed (but your room is probably without the extra bed) it says this:

Double or Twin Room with Extra Bed

Balcony
Private Bathroom

Size
151 ft²

Comfy beds, 8.1 – Based on 537 reviews
This room features a balcony, modern wooden floors and light wooden furniture. It offers free Wi-Fi, heating and a private bathroom, located outside the room.
