Santo Domingo and Granon

My family and I just got back to the states from our first Camino. We didn't end up walking the final 100km, as we had a 6 year old with us and after Melide he was ready to jump on a bus. We had an absolutely incredible time though, and made so many amazing connections and serendipitous moments.

One thing that we found hilarious was the monument of the Cruz de los Valientes. It is a modest cross on a hill right past Santo Domingo, and we saw numerous offerings, candles, and the occasional prostrate pilgrim.

When we looked it up in the guides, the details about the combatants remembered are absolutely incredible. While the champion for Santo Domingo is never identified by name, his preparations for the battle and unorthodox methods still resound through the history books. Martin Garcia, the champion for Granon, comes across as quite the humble and resourceful fighter.

For the rest of our Camino, whenever we saw a statue of a male Saint with an outstretched finger, we would remark that maybe it was Santo Martin, patron saint of resourcefulness and tenacity.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.
