After taking the boat on Espiritual, I’m trying to decide if I should stay in Padron or keep going? I’m kind of leaning towards staying closer to SdC so we can attend pilgrim mass next day, I think it’s 11 or noon…but I’ve been already 3x and maybe Padron is worth spending time in? Not a life threatening situation but if anyone has any suggestions…TY

HI Senora, I'm undecided about this leg myself. My plan is to walk straight through Padron to SdC but this may change. I have only 13 days of walking from Porto so will have at least a couple of rather long days.

I'm going to go on the Herbon diversion (3km) and see if I can stay at the Convento, after I take the boat. If it's an early morning boat I should be able to get a bed at Herbon. It's said they have a lovely communal meal, a tour of the monastery, and a mass/pilgrim's blessing.

If Herbon cannot take me, I plan to walk on to Padron (2.5km) and find lodging for the night in Padron. Shouldn't be too hard, Padron is a larger town. Then I'll spend the next morning exploring Padron, maybe see if I can get a Pedronia certificate. I'll take a short walk to Angueira de Suso in the afternoon. The next day after that, onwards to Santiago de Compostela!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

If you decide to stay in Padron I recommend stopping by cafe don Pepe in the morning. It’s by the church. The owner is very lively and it’s a great way to start your last day. I only talked to him for a minute but he gave me a big hug, put his hands on my shoulders and looked me in the eye and told me he was proud of me. I really needed that in the moment.

We wandered past Padron and stayed at the Casa Grande de Cappellania in the town of A Esclavitude. It was nice with private rooms, breakfast, next to a very nice church and across from a decent cafe. It is about 5.8 km past Padron.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Alas I believe Pepe has retired. I spent a great couple of hours with Pepe in 2022 but returned in 2023 to find it closed up and was informed he had retired

Don't just walk through Padrón. Take time to go to the church there, as it plays a part in the St James story.

I think I will stay, thanks for the advice

A good choice! Lovely, historical Padrón is definitely worth spending time.

Another important place in the story of St. James, accessed by a lovely walk and a flight of 132 steps is:

The home of the famous Galician poet Rosalia Castro, now a museum is a beautiful place to visit.

Hi, I stayed about 5 km outside of Padron, already on the way to Santiago. It's a beautiful place. https://www.olagardejesus.com/en

For anyone else undecided - we caught a midday boat, lunched and toured the church in Pedron then walked on another 4k to stay at O Lager de Jesus - excellant vegetarian communal meal in a beautifully converted old building. It also has a swimming pool.

Padron has the best Pulporias. Octopus restaurants if you're not a vegan. But you can walk through at lunch time perhaps
