I stayed in SJDP in 2009-----I stayed at Hotel Ramuntcho. They have rooms with shower or bath. The owners were very, very helpful. The hotel is very near the pilgrim's office. The address was 1 Rue de France. I have forgotten the phone number, but I recall ringing to book before I left Australia. It was just as well, because SJDP was booked out that night ! You will find it on the websites provided by other forum posters----I am not technological !! Alice , the owner, speaks English------I had no French language.
Good luck and have a wonderful Camino.

Hi Matty, I highly recommend booking something, no point in walking around aimlessly trying to secure a place to stay especially since you are arriving in the evening. And what you might find you'll captive to the price they tell you, it might not bust the budget but may not put one in the proper frame of mind to be starting their Camino. And it's just one thing less to worry about while traveling to St Jean.

Hi Matty,

My friend arrived in SJPP last Sunday. He had emailed Orrison, but just before he left he got a reply telling him that they were not open yet.
He arrived in SJPP without a reservation and picked up good accomadation without any difficulty (or lot's of walking :!: ) .
He said that the Pilgrim office were very helpful.

So don't stress. Relax, trust the Camino.

Buen Camino.
