Stamps on the Camino Portugues

Simple question. I'm walking the Camino Portugues from Lisbon to Santiago (via the coast) in September. Is it similar to the Camino Santiago with regard to stamps? It may sound a bit silly but I think that one of the best parts of the walk are the stamps in the credencial. I ended up framing mine and when I need a quick uplift I just take a look at the stamps and each one brings back a memory of a place or person that I met.

I love the stamps on the Camino - for me they are part of the journey. As you said, they remind me of a place I stayed, a church I visited, or a cafe where I had a meal. Most of all, they remind me of the people I met in those places. On my first Camino Frances from St. Jean Pied de Port to Santiago and on to Finisterre, I filled two credentials and even put pictures of the credentials in my blog. On my second Camino Frances, I brought two credentials with me from the Confraternity of St.James which I think had spaces for 72 sellos each, and had to get a third credential between Ponferrada and Villafranca. I was getting 4, 5, or more sellos each day, At the pilgrim's office in Santiago, the person looking over my credentials said, "it appears that you like the stamps." Yes, she was right.

There is a web site documenting the sellos called Los Sellos del Camino, http://lossellosdelcamino.com/index.php. It is a lot of fun.

Buen Camino!

Wherever you are , go into churches, bars, restaurant, municipalities, show your credential and ask in Portugal " um carimbo faz favor " and in Spain "un sello por favor "
They will definitively fill up your document with stamps

Bom caminho

I walked the Coastal from Porto in 2016. I had no problem filling my up Pilgrim passport with stamps. Bom Caminho

There is a very special stamp at the albergue Pinheiros in Alvaizere. You have to stay overnight to get it, but it is worth of staying. Very hospitalyty albergue (IMHO).

Or the establishment will have the stamp on a chain and you can do it yourself

We walked the same route and had no issues with getting stamps - all albergues, hotels, resedencials and places we slept had stamps and were happy to put one on our credencial

The French way seems to have many more opportunities to gain stamps. I'm only making an argument by comparison. The Portuguese way has plenty of places to get stamps but slightly less than the French way. I'll give you an example....... At both a restaurant and a hotel in porto they looked at me funny when I asked if they had a stamp for my credential. That experience having been said I will affirm that it is fairly easy to get stamps along the Portuguese route. Here is my credential from the Portuguese way. I managed to fill 2. 20201001_025732.jpg
