Portuguese Porto to Santiago (April 2014)
Hi everyone,
Started my Camino today. From Porto to Santiago. Went to the cathedral then followed the first few arrows just to make my start feel right then made my way to Sao Bento metro station and rode the metro to Vilar do Pinheiro. Then made my way along the N306 to Vilarinho. Today was a good day, it was sunny without being hot. Walking along the N306 is an interesting experience. Although it is a national highway it is only two lanes and no footpaths. The section we walked was mostly through small villages however that didn't stop the cars zooming passed at high speeds and with out footpaths means that some of the cars come way too close for comfort. Along the way met a chap named Amadeu. He runs a guest home for pilgrims. He told us all about his service so we decided to stay there for the night. When we arrived at Amadeu's place latter in the day he introduced us to his wife Marinha. They are such a lovely couple and have separate accommodation at the rear of their home. It is very clean today and welcoming at the end of the day. Marinha has washed our used cloths and will be ready for us to pack in the morning. I would highly recommend looking up Amadeu and Marinha if you are looking for an alternative to an albergue in Vilarinho. He can be contacted on local number 966 766 092 and he can stamp your credential as well.
