Hi all,

I am starting my camino soon. I am flying to Madrid on the 6th of May at midday and then I am planning to take a bus to Burgos to start there.

I was wondering if you could guide me on what to do next?! i.e where to stay or where to pick my credencial de peregrino.

Thanks!
Oscar

Hello oguerra13,

First get off the bus otherwise you will return to Madrid................There is a very good Albergue at the rear of the Cathedral up several steps. Depending on the time you arrive , go to the Cathedral and there you should be able to pick up your credential get it stamped then book into the Albergue.
Hope this is of use.
Buen Camino.....................Keith.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Turn right once out of the bus station and travel down the main road “Calle Madrid” towards Plaza Vega. In just a few hundred meters, you’ll reach a bridge, which will take you through to the Cathedral.
Once in the square, veer to the left of the Cathedral, where you’ll notice stairs. At the top of the stairs, head right down Calle de Ferman Gonzalez for about 200 metres or so, and the Albergue will be on your left. They can assist you from there. Buen Camnio.

Visit the wonderful Burgos cathedral. It closes at 18:00 hrs; there are audioguides in English.
Monasterio de las Huelgas, a cisterciense abbey, is interesting by itself, and by its picturesque quarter.
If there is good weather, walk the Paseo del Espolón, as an authentic "burgalese".
If you feel adventourous, try the Burgos' olla podrida ("rotten pot", originally a pesant dish, a kind of stew composed of whatever ingredients the cook had in hand...)
Try to identify fellow pilgrims amongst the tourists (a tip: they look happy , but somewhat crumpled and worn)
Buen camino!

If you are really excited and eager to move after a long trip.... maybe you can start walking to Tardajos or to Rabé de las Calzadas to relieve the anxiety to start!

That is what I did, and it felt GREAT

You can see first the bridge/ the gate opening to the square / and the spire of cathedral is in view too

Enjoy Burgos. The municipal alburgue is excellent. I stayed in august13 but stayed in the hotel beside the 'stairs '. El Cid. It was good too.

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles

Oscar-- are you all set with the Madrid to Burgos transportation? I've done this twice upon arrival to Barajas. From Barajas Terminal T4 you can take the ALSA bus to Burgos and/or from the bus station at Avenida Las Americas. You can get to Avenida Las Americas by Bus from T4 (about 1 Euro).

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
