Hello fellow posters and pilgrims

I'm arriving with a friend on 24th August at about 19.30 in SJPdP and wonder what time the office where passports are issued from closes? I've read 'late in the evening' but can't find anything more detailed - any idea?
Also, as we're arriving at this time, I'm keen to try to book somewhere to stay in advance (though it seems from other postings there will always be somewhere to stay on arrival?). I've tried a couple of paces already - L'Esprit du Chemin and Gite Ultreia but they're already full. Any other suggestions or ideally, recommendations. We're staying one night before heading off.

Thanks for any help offered.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

The Pilgrim Office closes after the last train arrives. They will help you find accommodations if you do not have something reserved. The Hotel Ramuntcho is nice and it is affordable.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Thanks for the information about the passport office - that makes sense and incredibly helpful. Thanks also for the hotel suggestion.

Has anyone else got a suggestion about something more like a albergue?

There certainly are albergues, but most everyone I met (including those most dedicated to albergues) stayed at a pension or cheap hotel in SJPdP. I think a lot of people like one last night of good rest before stepping off. Doesn't mean you shouldn't or can't find an albergue (at all), but it is why you'll see a lot of non-albergues mentioned on threads like this (as opposed to if you asked about a place to stay in, say, Fromista).

Hi Una, the only accommodation I booked in advance was L'Esprit du Chemin which I booked back in February and was dismissed curtly when I arrived in St Jean being told they had no record

Be aware Maggie/AML: this was 'SuperSullivans' experience! I would check a bit nearer your start date that your booking is still in place.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Yeah Thanks...I have been aware of this incident. The hospitaleros at L esprit de chemin asked me to call them a day or 2 before I arrive to reconfirm booking....if I don't they will give the place to another pilgrim!! So I will call them before hand and print off my reservation confirmation. Have Faith. :)

Buen Camino

They also keep a few beds for walking arrivals, but they will disappear by early afternoon. If you are arriving from Le Puy, you always have a chance for a bed there!
