Swimming Spots? SJPP to Santiago

Hello,

I mentioned on another thread that I'll be walking, beginning on either June 2nd or 3rd, with my 9 year old daughter from SJPP onward. She'll turn 10 on the trail. We will have either 45 or 46 days to complete our walk. If we are ahead of time, I would like to walk on toward Muxia.

My daughter is a competitive swimmer, and she loves the water with or without competition. Any recommended swimming holes between SJPP and Santiago? I suppose we are willing to walk a little ways off the main trail. We are packing as light as possible, but I'm wondering if it is even worth it for her to bring her swimming suit.

As you are coming in to Molinaseca the camino crosses the bridge over the Meruelo river. The area under the bridge is a swimming area and it beautiful too.

Any recommended swimming holes between SJPP and Santiago?

There is a fabulous municipal swimming pool in the village of Hontanas, between Hornillos (just after Burgos) and Castrojeriz. Be sure to stop there!

after coming down from the pilgrims monument at the top of the vista coming out of pamplona there is a wonderful albergue run by the sweetest family. its called el jardin de muruzabal....AND THEY HAVE A VERY NICE POOL!!

As you are coming in to Molinaseca the camino crosses the bridge over the Meruelo river. The area under the bridge is a swimming area and it beautiful too.

We were there in late June 2015. The river was dammed and townspeople were relaxing along both banks with just a few in the water. I turned my convertible pants into shorts and swam back and forth under the Roman bridge. It was my only swimming along the camino.

I've swum at Albergue Cuatro Cantones in Belorado and Casa Barbadelo in Batbadelo - both have nice pools. Also shouted myself a couple of hours of water spa in Leon at Hotel Q!Centro (15€). This time I also hope to swim at Muruzabal and El Acebo, and relax post Camino in the hot springs at Ourense.

If you do the Luquin variant out of Estella, you will find a very nice municipal pool (most towns of any size have very good municipal pools-- training swimming appears to be part of the Spanish pool curriculum). As well, the pool in Burgos is on the Camino on the way out of town by the Parque Parral. At a slow time of year, perhaps in the summer when the water is not fast, the Rio Esla on the way out of Mansilla las Mulas can provide an occasion for a dip.

There is an albergue just on the other side of the bridge from Puenta le Reina that has a wonderful pool! It was my first swim on the camino in hot July and was really enjoyable.

I also stayed at some of the places mentioned above taking advantage of municipal swimming pools and the albergue in El Acebo. I also swam in the river that runs from Villafranca del Bierzo to Trabadelo, there are easy access points in both of those towns.
