I have just completed my Camino, arriving in Santiago on Good Friday. I then flew to Stanstead on Sunday morning.

I just wanted to take this oppertunity to thank all on this forum and especially those who helpd with the questions that I had over the last few months.

I had a life changing experience and am still trying to sort it all out in my head. I met fascinating people and became closer to a friend I walked with. It was a once in a lifetime experience that, while I may repeat, will never be the same a second time.

My bit of advice to others would be to take as little as possible. I am a keen photographer and I took two cameras, a 35mm and a digital, big mistake, I ended up only using the digital.

Also, choose an 'off peak' time - Holy week gets crowded with people. Don't necessarily use the refugios that are listed in the guide book, offset your days and you wont bump into as many people.

But above all, keep your eyes, ears and heart open, and wait and see what happens,

Once again, thanks to you all,

Hanleyman

Ah! Your words made me think of this beautiful poem.

As travelers oft look back at eve
When eastward darkly going,
To gaze upon that light they leave
Still faint behind them glowing
So, when the close of pleasure’s day
To gloom hath near consigned us,
We turn to catch one fading ray
Of joy that’s left behind us.

I'm so happy to hear that you had a good Camino. My husband and I are going at the end of the year, can't wait. This is an amazing forum, isn't it, so personal. Maybe you could help me with a detail. I'm flying o Europe from Australia and still trying to work out my best route. If I fly into Heathrow how hard is it to get to Stansted, both in time and complication? We will have just completed a 24 hour flight so want to make the end part as simple as possible. (The other alternatives are to go to Paris or Madrid, but Ryanair is so cheap).
Thanks

Hi Maggie,
There is a direct bus from Heathrow to Stanstead; if you can get the connections right it works. Last trip to Europe we flew into Heathrow and took the bus to Standstead to get a Ryanair flight to Oslo. If you have to stay overnight the cost of the hotel negates the savings in the ticket price.
You can't get a flight to Madrid or Paris for the same price as a flight to London?

a spanish woman told my there's a saying
everyone makes three caminos--
the one you make in your head before you leave
the one you make on the camino
and the one you make after you get home

has anyone else ever heard this?

Hi Dawn,

Yes, I remember, a good choice of camera, i think you will be very pleased with it. I did my two weeks with one charged set of 2400mha rechargeable batteries and they are still going... thats over 600 shots at full resolution and looking at the screen on and off. So you should hoefully have similar ...

Good luck and have a great Camino
