Too many and too often!
This afternoon I arrived in O Cebreiro for the third time. My previous visits were in high summer and a bit of an ordeal. This time I had a good day for it: cool and overcast, making the steep climb so much more comfortable. After so many monotonous "menus peregrino" along the way it was lovely to feast on a Galician menu of guiso de pulpo, churrasco mixto and tarta de Santiago again. So pleased to be back in the Promised Land, even if only by a kilometre or two :)

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
1990! Guess the O'Cebreiro Church hasn't changed much since then, or in the past 1000 years ...

Quite a bit actually. Didn't have a manned reception desk in the church then, or so many lights :) The village had a sad and neglected atmosphere then: as did many of the smaller villages along the Frances. The whole village feels very different now: spruced up, neat and tidy. And incredibly busy. I seem to remember only one bar/restaurant with two or three customers. There is little doubt that the current popularity of the Frances has brought some measure of prosperity to villages near dead 20+ years ago.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Great perpective the resurgance of the Camino. Nice to know that simple tourism (that's us!) can improve local economies and assist in historical preservation in small but important ways. Yeah, and glad there are lights now, a big improvment from the Middle Ages!

Later last night thick fog appeared in O Cebreiro, followed by rain. Both still around this morning for my walk down to Triacastela. Now I know for sure that I'm in Galicia :)
At least the rain must have melted the snow ;)
