...now I know I get to walk another Camino and I have the routes, albergues and supermercados plotted on maps.me I’m barely even thinking about it. It’s just a delicious little gift that I’m subconsciously savouring and slowly looking forward to.

This reminds me of a thread I was thinking of starting, but now will put here!

I am looking forward to the day after Christmas. Being a long-time forum member, I have noticed that every year, right after Christmas, we seem to get a lot of extra energy from members who start planning and posting about their 2020 plans. I don't give myself permission to do much planning until the new year. But I admit that I have several caminos almost ready to go, and my backpack/supplies are always ready for deployment (although small improvements can always be made). In January I pull out the spreadsheets and get serious!

Yes, it's like gardening, at least here in Finland. Right after Christmas I pull out all little bags of flower seeds and start planning - even though the hardest winter is yet to come! Planning Camino feels like it would come quicker

You have more willpower than I do, C. I find that I start thinking about my next camino within weeks of arriving home from my camino. But I do have an iron clad rule that no plane tickets can be bought till January. I am sure @Kiwi-family won’t mind if I derail this thread to ask if you are willing to divulge the caminos on your “maybe” list?

Of COURSE, I have been thinking about my next camino(s) since my last one. However, like you, I can't officially start looking at flights and refining my itinerary until January. (Well, I can peek after Christmas.) I have been so busy with other stuff that this hasn't been too hard.

My next camino might be the Sanabres from Zamora to Santiago. I haven't been to Santiago for a couple of years, so that would be nice. The 3 week length would work nicely if I decide to add a week of Spanish classes at the start.

Having said that, honestly, the southern routes and the Madrid "call" to me a lot. I really liked what @Anthony Rocco said in another thread:

We did the Madrid in Sept-Oct this year and loved it. We refer it is as the most villager-oriented. If you want scenery, don't bother. If you want tough walking, don't bother. If you want mountains, you only get a few days. If you want delightful villages and interaction with the villagers, it's got the other 7 caminos we have walked beat by a long shot.

However, I probably won't start walking until mid- to late-April, so some routes will get hot in May.

So, I'm still thinking.

Flight prices for summer trips are usually really good in the first part of January as well.

Totally agree! On my phone (maps.me) I keep the tracks of "all" the caminos in Spain, just in case I find myself anywhere in the country and need to go for a walk.

It looks like January is a busy time for booking flights for Caminos. I have already booked for my Camino Portuguese this year, so I have beaten the rush. After seeing what Anthony Rocco said about the Madrid I will be looking seriously at that for my next one. As soon as I get back from Santiago I will start planing but I won't be going in 2021 as there are just too many people in a Holy Year.

I suspect even in a holy year the Madrid will be quiet and if you stop at Sahagun you should be fine.

I second his comment about villager interaction on the Madrid. As I have written before, for me this interaction was the manifestation of the spirit of the camino on the Madrid that on busier caminos comes from the shared experience with other pilgrims.
