The White Lady near O Pedrouzo

Time of past OR future Camino
April-May 2023
One of the most surreal, and enduring, memories of my recently completed Camino occurred about 5 kms out of O Pedrouzo. I came upon a ‘healing’ area decorated with proverbs and other words of encouragement. As I walked past, I noticed a woman dressed all in white out of the corner of my eye, on the other side of the path.

I returned back to make sure I had not deceived myself and indeed there she was - suitably angelic. Almost immediately, she stood up, came over to me, hugged me and gave me a long kiss on my cheek. I thanked her tearily, to which she replied in kind but with ‘Arigatou gozaimashita’- Japanese is my second language. How did she know that!?

No one else I talked to seems to have noticed her or had a similar experience. But surely someone here has come across this person. Anyone?

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Wandering aikido practitioner?

I speak precisely ten words of Japanese - all of them opening or closing greetings. (I’ve practiced aikido for nearly 40 years)

What might you have just done for someone to say ‘thank you’ to you?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I told my son about it and he thought she'd probably noticed that my scallop shell had a Hinomaru (Japanese flag) drawn on it. But the interesting thing is that no one else seems to have seen the location nor the lady (yet).

Her 'thank you' response was, I suppose, based on the fact that I had acknowledged her and returned the hug.
