Too many and too often!
The Route Napoleon is due to reopen tomorrow after the official winter closed period. However the AEMET weather agency is forecasting rain and thunderstorms for today and tomorrow, with the possibility of snow above 1200m - which would include the highest parts of the route.

The first two Camino pilgrims got lost yesterday and called the rescue service. Bad visibility on the Valcarlos route. 😶
There have been problems in other areas too recently. Some appalling weather. Two pilgrims on the Mozarabe were rescued by bomberos and the Guardia Civil after getting trapped by mud and flooding.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Maybe good to remind pilgrims, especially first time ones, that Navarre decided a few years back to charge pilgrims needing rescue who had not obeyed signs warning of danger.
Shortly afterwards two pilgrims from South America who had ignored the sign were charged €26.000 after they were rescued.

I read this morning in LA Voz de Galicia that there are 47 roads impacted by snow, and10 different regions in Spain (Navarre was not one though) in a yellow alert for heavy rain and weather. It was talking about the difficulties of people getting home from Easter celebrations.

Go to the pilgrim office before you start in the morning and follow their advice EXACTLY. If they say do not walk or it may be dangerous, DON'T WALK!!!!!! Whatever the conditions are in SJPP you can be sure that as you go up the worse it will get. If you walk when you are told you shouldn't you have no one to blame but yourself for what may happen.

The two pilgrims got lost. They took a wrong turn. It was apparently late in the afternoon when they called for help. With thousands of people walking every year from SJPP, it happens.

The Pilgrim Office has produced a kind of illustrated map that they hand out and that describes the Valcarlos route and the Napoleon route in more detail than just "follow the yellow arrows". It can be useful.

There is also a standard map that one can download - it shows the area that is mentioned in the news / in the tweet from the rescue team (Central Electrica Txirriskimengua). Oh, hold on, that is not the same as Txirrixkinengo or is it? We might never know ...
