How low must tides be to prevent boat crossings from caminha to A Guarda?
Ok, I am not the only one...
I was a tidal expert last week before the Caminha to A Guarda crossing last Wednesday. Booked
https://xacobeotransfer.com/en/home/ in advance, was given no prior warning of an impending low tide impacting the scheduled crossing. Upon arrival, after questioning those at the peer, was told the xacobeotransfer ferry would not cross due to low tide. Fortunately, a twinned taxi boat service, with a smaller keel carried us across using the same ticket.
So turn up at least 20 minutes in advance and ask questions immediately if you do not see the ferry.
Note: it appears the sandbanks 100 meters off the peer restricted the crossing, so water depth at the peer may provide a false perception. Guessing you require a minimum of 2.5 meters of water at the peer for the large boats to safely cross the sandbanks off the peer.
