Sunday travel, May 5th, needing to get from Santiago de Compostela to Porto. Is there a direct train? A train with transfers? A direct bus? Any info is helpful! thanks!

ALSA have three direct buses on their timetable that day. Simpler than train which involves a change.

Bus company. This is their website. They use the Spanish version of the name - Oporto - rather than Porto. https://www.alsa.com/en/web/bus/home

And do you have any advice or experience in getting from the Porto airport to Valença? My first night to begin my trip is in Tui, Spain!

The train from SdC to Porto can be confusing as last time I looked you had to book the Spanish portion and the Portuguese portion separately. see https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Santiago-de-Compostela/Porto#r/Train
I've always taken the Alsa bus but one of these days I'll take the train, overnight in Vigo and continue on.

Bus is simple and straightforward. I took the bus from SdC to Porto last week. Travel by bus is often quicker than via trains.
Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
