Hi, my wife and I are planning to walk from Lucca to Rome in early October this year (yes not much planning time left!). We really enjoyed all the postings here, lots of excellent informations.

I do have couple questions, hope the experienced pellegrini could help:
1. could we catch a train or bus from the Rome airport (like FCO)? any ticket office there? And if not in the airport, which are the more convenient terminals in Rome?
2. we planned to start around October 8th, 2017. Would the monastery ostello or pilgrim ostello (albergues) still open along the route?

We have walked a few caminos in Spain, and have been working hard on Italian for a month now, hope we would be able to phone for reservations! But I constantly mixing up my Espanol and Italian, lots of fun though!

Thanks all those pellegrini that wrote blogs, they are tremendous help for our planning!

Thanks very much for your help!

Doris and Simon,

You can catch the Leonardo Express from FCO to Termini, then change trains there to Firenze (Florence) and another transfer there to Lucca. This is all from Google Maps. See attached image.

Buen Camino,

Hi Dennis, thanks very much! I did search the trenitalia etc, but the Google Maps shows the routes clearly and in good details. I will remember this method.
Grazie!

There's a local bus service which may be more convenient -- I've used it myself, though you *really* need to be there about 15 minutes before departure time, and the information about the service can be annoying to locate -- if you can manage get that bus, it's much faster than the more complicated route by train ; and you should be able to sort at least a little time in Rome itself

Watch out for pickpockets at Termini!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Hi JabbaPapa, is this local bus service departing to Lucca from the Rome airport? I hope there is "tourist info" at the airport that I could ask! Oh yes we will spend some times in Rome after we completed the walk!

And Sirjohnharington, thanks, we will look out for the pickpockets at the Termini, that is why I am not too crazy to go to Rome to catch the bus or train! We are usually "loaded" with cash in the beginning of the walks! We were there a few years ago and people were not too patient to give directions (we were not pellegrini), but I speak Italian better now and hoping for better reception with our pellegrini batches!

It leaves from somewhere in town, IIRC not that far from the train station -- there seem to be two places where you can catch it ; I'd advise looking up the info yourselves though, perhaps even when you arrive there ?

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Rome is my favorite town. If you see children begging change your route they often are distraction. Keep your things to yourselves. Never had a problem.
A and if you there have a cup at the Tazza doro near the Pantheons for me.

Two years ago, I took train service from Milan to Aosta, three trains with two switches in train stations and I don’t speak Italian. Ugh. The return was by comfortable bus, on the same bus with only a couple stops and far easier. They don’t run every day but it was great service and easier wandering around looking for your connection. From the Airport you can take a bus into Rome and then you see of course the city. The train station is in the middle of town. Romans are super helpful and it’s no rocket science. If you staying in Rome? Roma Card big plus no waiting at the mayor spectacles. Like the forum or the theater. Roma card owners have special intrances and don’t have to wait in line. If you like a climbs at the Vatican museums - one time we were coming down in the afternoon around 1500 there was no waiting line at all. Just pick beforehand, what you want to see. I’ll tell more if you interesseted. Like best coffee or best ice cream.... Rome is one of my favorite cities.
