The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
This may have changed since I was there in Sept 2017 as I haven't kept up on the bus system. So I apologize in advance is no longer the case. But a bus stopped at the airport and picked up passengers to Lugo. From the Lugo bus station you could purchases a bus ticket to go from Lugo to Sarria.

The bus company was Freire and multiple times during the day but not everyday. I had to wait about an hour so probably the 12:45 pm but the company may not be in business anymore or times may have changed. I believe one of the bus companies is no longer running but don't remember which one.

Lugo is quite close to Sarria, so a taxi would only be 20-25 Euros, not too bad if the bus time didnt work for you.

Or you could walk in on the Primitivo, which joins up with the Frances. People who have walked that will know the qualifying distance marker?

@Helenenn, have a look at the transport website of the Galician regional government: https://www.bus.gal - look for both direct and indirect bus connections to Sarria (viaje directo and transbordos). They also have created an app with the same features; it is free, i.e no payment, download from the Apple AppStore or from Google.

The bus timetable is currently only available until the middle of September. I had a look at a Friday and a Saturday towards the end of the available timetable. Here are the results for 10 and 11 September for busses from the airport to the Sarria bus station. Note that there is one direct bus every day of the week and all year although not good for your arrival time.

I see now that the public transport app of the Galician government lets me choose the 2nd of October as a date. It gives me the same three connections as those for the 11th of September. You should be able to get the 15:29 at the airport with a change in Lugo and arrival in Sarria at 18:00.

The app also shows me a bus from Santiago bus station to Sarria with a change in Lugo for Saturday 2 October, leaving Santiago at 18:30 with no stops until Lugo, and arriving in Sarria at 21:03.

The app is called Transporte Público de Galicia, by Xunta de Galicia.

That is fantastic .you have been so helpful. I was a little nervous travelled solo but that's really set my mind at ease and I'm sure there will be other pilgrims going same route

Freire closed down in December and the route to Lugo is now run by Monbus (www.monbus.es). There is a Monbus to Lugo which leaves the airport at 15:15 on a Saturday and arrives in Lugo at 17:00. There is then a Monbus which leaves Lugo at 20:35 and gets into Sarria at 21:14. Alternatively if you don't want to wait in Lugo, you can get a taxi from Lugo to Sarria (about 45 euro at a guess). But assuming you are coming in on the Aer Lingus flight from Dublin, typically there are many other pilgrims doing exactly same trip and it might be worth your while you are in the departure lounge asking around to find two other people to share the 130 euro fee for a taxi direct to Sarria.

It is a little disconcerting that the departure and arrival times given by the Xunta website and their app that I have just touted are a little bit different from the times on the Monbus website 😎. But a Monbus bus appears definitely to be the bus to take.

I wonder whether this has to do with the fact that the Santiago bus station moved to the new building in May this year. There was an announcement that timetables may change by a few minutes.

@Helenenn, you have to promise us that you will let us know all the details after you have arrived in Sarria in October. ☺️

Yes please I will share taxi to sarria my flight lands at 15.05 so I will wait for you

Hi, this is late posting but in case others see this, I took the city bus Tralusa 6A which departs regularly from just outside the Santiago airport doors for 1 euro, stayed on until the last stop to the Intermodal station, and took the 1600 Renfe train which transferred in Ourense, then on to Sarria, to start my walk the next day. None of the buses had updated timetables online/left too early in the day for when my flight arrived, so I found this the best option. And google maps had incorrect information about this so don't rely on it! My flight arrived around 12:30 and I had more than a couple hours extra until the train, so wasn't stressed at all getting to the station.

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
RIDE SHARE Hi all. Am arriving Santiago Airport from Gatwick at 9.40am on the 28th May. This is my first mini Camino! I am 69(M) and in good condition for my age. Would like to share a taxi or transport to Sarria. Happy to wait at the airport for anyone arriving on later flights.
Seems to me you would have no trouble using the public transport options listed above in this thread. Otherwise, given that this thread dates from 2021 you might be better reposting here: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/search-forums/🚕-ride-share.309/

Thanks for that! Looks like some kind soul (you?) has done it for me. I haven't totally ruled out the public transport option yet. I had originally booked with a package company which had transport and hotels arranged by themselves. Unfortunately they pulled out because they hadn't sufficient bookings, for the second year running. My American cousin and I had long planned to do this together, but sadly he passed away suddenly. So it looks like I will just have to do it on my own, and light a candle and say a prayer on his behalf and memory in the cathedral at Santiago.

@Vince Meegan the Camino, Spain, Europe can all look pretty challenging but thousands walk the caminos every year even in these Covid years. Landing Santiago by 10:00am, you’ll be very comfortable to use the local buses to Lugo and Sarria and you’ll get a slow and likely gentle introduction to Galicia.
I am sorry for your loss. May that candle burn bright.
