Is that really necessary?

Tongue in cheek. Quote not from OP but from a UK politician describing the readers of this newspaper.
Will not go into detail because I do not want to break the forumrules.
IMO just a funny intro. Now let us focus on the positive content of the article.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc

It’s a niche reference; but it was a direct quote from the recently departed British Home Secretary as to the nature of the Guardian readership.

I often forget the international nature of the readership on here. I do hope it’s not unduly spoiled your day.

I’ll add, perhaps Ill-advisedly, that I am amazed how @SabineP and others remain so current with respect to international media. I’ve rather enjoyed, this week, reading the Spanish coverage of ongoing events in the UK. The detached point of view gives a clarity which domestic media sometimes misses.

Enough of that. The original article is worth ten minutes of anyone’s time in my opinion.

Humour/Irony/use of language can be tricky on here give the very varied backgrounds of us all!!! Age, nationality, country of residence, profession, etc. I got into ‘hot water’ yesterday for suggesting that Ivar had briefed a ‘top design agency’ for his excellent new logo and someone took umbrage. Being of that world, I know that to brief a top design agency would cost a few hundred thousand quid to get to concept stage but obviously most people won’t know that ( and why should that) and think it costs £100! I didn’t remotely think anyone would think I was being serious! My fault I guess! I don’t use emojis either! Maybe it’s time to start!!

Thank you for the link @henrythedog. We are so lucky to have a reading canine among our membership as this was a lovely story.

Thanks for clarifying, and no it didn’t.

Beautiful. Thank you for posting. -- This seems rather minor compared to the main story, but I do wonder how the dog fared, was he allowed in the albergues past Sarria.

As others of the tofu-munching wokerati will have noted already, The Guardian has what seems to be a monthly mention for the Camino.

The latest offering:

BBC radio’s main evening news programme today had a feature on the topic of my opening to this thread today. It had been held over from the time of the original quote because, apparantly, there’s been a lot going on in UK politics this week.

The feature discussed why tofu has been so unfairly associated in cynical popular culture with woke leftist fantasy politics. To be fair, no convincing explanation was offered, but Ken Hom (a UK based Chinese-American chef) did describe some excellent recipes.

The epithet having been adopted as something of a compliment by Guardian readers there is now a range of merchandise available.

Good to know... With Christmas coming up, there may be opportunities to enhance the culinary libraries of several of my sisters-in-law. It's either that or new Birkenstocks or UGGs. ;>)
