Vancouver BC/Lower Mainland meeting - Feb.19th 1-4pm(2011)

cecelia

Wandering for the love and growth of it
Time of past OR future Camino
2013
Hello everybody who has access to the Lower Mainland in BC,
Spring is almost here and the hearts and minds of many of us are turning to the Camino de Santiago.
As a branch of the Canadian Company of Pilgrims*, we are in the process of organizing our next meeting for anyone who is interested. We would like this meeting to be a blend of past, present and future 'pilgrims'. If you have walked in the past and have some ideas to share or if this is your first time and you have questions to ask, please consider coming. This might be the only place you can go where eyes won't glaze over as you share your camino experiences.

Next meeting:
Saturday February 19th, 2011 - 1-4 pm
Location: New Life Community Church
8765 Government Road Burnaby
(few blocks from Costco off Lougheed Highway)

We are thinking that we would like to get as many past walkers to participate as possible and would like some volunteers. Email me with any ideas you have. For example:
1. Do you have something you would like to talk about that you think would be useful for people to know?
2. Are you an expert in something - eg backpacks, boots, the right clothing, packing, telephones that work in Spain and France, best books/maps or something else??
3. If you have walked one or more of the caminos, would you be willing to spend about 15 or 20 minutes sitting at a small table and talking briefly about your trip or area of expertise and answering any questions people may have?
4. Do you feel like making some cookies or some other goody?

If you would like to help in some way, please get back to me as soon as possible so we can make arrangements. Otherwise just come along and bring a friend.
An RSVP is appreciated if you are planning to attend so we can get an idea of how many are likely to be there. (Reply to this email or send to cecelia@santiago.ca)

Thank you. We look forward to a great meeting and to seeing you there.
Cecelia and Diane

*The Canadian Company of Pilgrims is a group of Canucks who are dedicated to assisting those who want to walk any one of the several Caminos to Santiago. In addition, the CCoP helps build/repair albergues and facilitate hospitalero training for those who are interested in volunteering as hospitaleros. The CCoP is the only Canadian group permitted to grant a 'credencial' - the pilgrims' passport required to sleep in the albergues. Their website is <http://www.santiago.ca> . There's lots of information there. Check them out.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Correction in the above message:
there are two places in Canada where the credencial can be obtained. One is the Canadian Company of Pilgrims, as mentioned above and the other is l'Association du Québec à Compostelle (duquebecacompostelle.org).

My apologies to our friends in Quebec and thanks to Maryse from Kelowna for bringing it to my attention.
Bon chemin
Cecelia
