VdLP Spring Walkers' Calendar

JillGat

Time of past OR future Camino
CF in spring and winter, Portugues, Sanabres: 2024
Before I walked the CF, I started a calendar list here where people could add their names on the day they intend to leave. It was a great way to find others who will be walking around the same time as you. Doesn't mean you HAVE to walk together, but we can certainly plan together ahead of time and share what we each find out about lodging, side routes, etc. I'm planning to walk the VdLP, starting from Sevilla in April, so will add my name first. Add a post to this thread and I will paste your name into the original calendar.

UPDATE, 8 March, 2019: Hi all! I finally finagled a way to get to Spain in June. So Via de la Plata is out and Camino Primitivo is in! I won't be keeping up this calendar for admittedly selfish reasons... I hope people will read through the posts to find others who are leaving at times near theirs. Buen Camino!

May 30th, start from Seville and try to get to Salamanca or Zamora by June 21st

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Dates locked in. Arrival Sevilla March 19th, 12:25pm, will probably start walking that day.

March 22 Seville

I will be right behind you. I am doing the VIA Augusta first then starting the VDLP March 5th. Maybe we will meet somewhere.

Will be leaving Sevilla March 30th, walking as far as Caceres.

By the way hi Colette - we met briefly last March/April over a couple of days on the Norte. Lets hope the weather is better this time!

That’s amazing but remind me where we shared a path on El Norte and yes hopefully it will be a drier spring on the VDLP.

Hi Colette, I suspect we will meet as I'm going to be slow to start as I get out from behind my desk and re-establish my walking legs into their new routine and daily rhythm. I look forward to it! Megg

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
The VdlP has been on my to do list for a while. Planning to run/walk the Frances starting mid March but if I pick up a running niggle/injury (runners` curse) I will head to Seville instead for a walk. 50% chance of a VdlP start on Wed 20th March.

1st April from Seville

Nice that you'll finish Levante on my birthday. I'm sure I'll remember that. But until then - Buen Camino ;)
If I remember correctly, you will be 49, Kinky. You are still just a "young buck" with many more Camino journeys to walk. Eventually there will not be a speck of dirt in Spain that your boots have not tramped on!

49?! Kinky is a young pup!
A pup??? Well, Jill come on :D :D :D

Hi Danielle
Nice to hear from you.
I plan to start on the 26th and start slowly so you may well catch up.
Buen Camino

Hi, I walked the Via Augusta between the 6th and the 11th January. I never seen nor met another Pilgrim until I arrived in Seville. Did you come across any other Pilgrims on your journey?

Yes, Mark, maybe I will catch up, but my days are averaging around 20km, where possible, and a bit more occasionally! Buen Camino!

I will walk into Sevilla tomorrow .....I’ve started from Cadiz.....where is January on the list??

I pulling the stop’s after finishing Via Augusta yesterday......will wait some weeks/a month at least.....I’m sort of introvert....😅....all the same.....totally alone on route......is totally alone....and a bit to isolated......even by my “standards”....it’s getting to me somehow

A break in Sevilla or around others for a while may be good for you.
I have enjoyed solo walks too but I think you need to be in the mood for it (as you know yourself ).
Good luck
and Buen Camino. I hope you find company on your return.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Thx for support Annie....Hostel One Sevilla Centro was spot on.....good vibe and veeery welcoming guests/staff...more insight of this eclectic city and I gained longing for a return and a restart in early springtime ...I’ll bee following weather and responce from fellow peregrinos closely and book when it all starts to move....8-10 weeks time something...??

Sorry for my absence! I was in Mexico City for the last couple of weeks. And my plans have changed about walking La Plata. Though I really hoped to walk it this spring, I got an opportunity to ride my motorcycle on the Silk Road in Kajikistan, through the Pamir Mountains next summer, 2020. I need to save my money for that! The trip is being led by Elspeth Beard, the first British woman to ride her bike around the world (in the 1980s).

If someone else would like to follow up on this thread, you can cut and paste my original post and then update it from there. I can delete the calendar in the OP and edit the note to that effect. Let me know! In the meantime, I will try to find some time in the next couple of days to add the start dates from recent posts to my calendar.

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience!
Jill

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Looking forward to comparing planning notes!

From Sevilla starting 16th of March

Starting first Camino from St Jean Pied de Port Sunday 28th April. Never done anything like this before. Have written a kit list and about to start weighing.

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
Hoping to leave Sevilla on Tuesday 23 April 2019, for the Via de La Plata... Fingers (and toes) crossed.
No, it's not happening... life sometimes catches up with you.... Via de La Plata postponed until March 2020... But I will be walking the Via Augusta from 6-11 April 2019. Anybody going that way? It looks like a very quiet camino down there.... :)

Have fun! Sorry I can't put you on this calendar, as it is for Camino La Plata and you presumably are doing the Frances. You will have a wonderful time!

Hi Everyone! It has been some time since I've visited this site! Glad to "see" familiar pilgrims!
I am wondering about joining up with any other pilgrims starting in mid March ('19) in Seville. To make a long story short, I have a seizure disorder (not epilepsy) stemming from cancer. The cancer, thank God, is in remission, sadly, due to metastatic lesions in my brain, I have occasional seizures. It isn't so much that I want to walk with others, as I think solo pilgrimages are very important, but more so that I want to have an idea of who is going to be heading out in/around this time. Many thanks and big hugs!

Hello El Nadador

I start walking next Saturday so will be ahead of you for by about 2 weeks although if you are a fast Walker you may very well pass me. Best wishes for your trip and very much hope your medical issues allow you safe passage.

Hi Megg, Maybe we'll cross paths. I'm very de-conditioned from all the treatment, so I can't walk nearly as fast. We'll see! :) Thank you for your well-wishes!

I will start the VDLP a month later so I cant help you there. But you will do just fine. Take it easy and do short stages until you get your camino legs. Remember its not a race, its about putting one foot in front of the other and enjoying the wonders the Camino can show you. On a practical level - and of course this is only of use if you have some kind of forewarning of the sezure. Install the phone numbers of the emergency services on speed dial on your phone, if you do not speak Spanish, memorise the Spanish words for ' I need help, I am at ------ ' Buen Camino from a fellow cancer survivor.

I don't want to miss out on the wonders of the Camino because of my fears. When I did the Frances and del Norte I was so carefree -- this was well before the diagnosis. Maybe this worry will work in my favor and allow me to be very present and appreciate everything -- each step!
I do speak conversational Spanish. I also had little id-like cards (credit card sized) that say in both English and Spanish that I have seizures. I'm hoping this will give me some peace of mind.
Thank you very much for your words of encouragement! <3

Hello, I’ll be arriving in Madrid on the 13th of March and will make my way down to Seville either the same day or the next day. Probably will start walking the VDLP the 15th. I plan to take the Sanabres Camino when the time comes. I’m looking forward to meeting other pilgrims along the way.

This is reassuring! We will be starting almost the same time! I'm nervous about my medical conditions.. I'm trying to keep the faith in All things and let it come as it may!

What happened to july and august?...my favourite months...planning to walk from granada to merida t h en train to sevilla to walk v d lp..again

1 April start walking from Sevilla to Salamanca. At 2020 Salamanca-SdC

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I just checked in and tried to catch up the posters on the calendar. If you posted before this and i didn't add you, please PM me and I'll add your name next to your start date. As I said earlier, I have a lot to do this spring and I need to save money for a big moto trip next year, 2020. So I am probably going to postpone my VdLP walk until after that. That being said, I can't stop thinking about a long walk sometime soon. Still dreaming about VdLP, so if there is anyone here who is really persuasive who can have a talk with my husband, let me know! Jill

Hi arriving Seville on the 11th March starting VDLP on the 13th March Sanabres route to Santiago and onto Fisterra and Muxia. I have walked this route in 2015 but recovering from an injury so I might be a little bit slower this time :)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi, I plan to start the VDLP from Huelva on the 12th or 13th of March joining the traditional VDLP at Zafra and then taking the Sanabres route. It has been too many years since my last Camino and I am looking forward to the walk and meeting the other pilgrims.

What a "brilliant" idea. The simple ideas are the best. I will be doing the Via De La Plata Sept/Oct 2020 and I will be interested in tracking the outcome of this initiative. Buen Camino to all
