Hello, just wondering if it is advisable to walk the del Norte route alone or should I try to find someone to walk with? I am in my mid-60's, I walked the Camino Frances this year without much difficulty. I was also wondering if you can swim in the sea in late May? Many thanks.

Walking the Norte alone is not an issue. You will walk alone during the, day, and meet up with others at the albergue in the afternoon. Swimming late May may still make for a cold swim.

I agree with @Anemone del Camino that walking alone isn't an issue - especially in May. I walked the first week of the Norte in May of this year and had that perfect balance of solitary walking and company when I needed it.

Re. swimming - I swam in San Sebastián and Getaria. For me, it was the perfect way to end a day of hiking. It was colder than I expected, though!

Hi There

I'm currently on the Del Norte route in Avilés and I haven't had any problems with being alone so far. It's my first Camino and I'm normally someone that does things with other people. So to come out here on my own was a challenge in itself. People seemed to appear along the route when I needed a pick me up.

The only time I would recommend a group for the Norte is in the winter when the hostels are less busy. Some of the hostels were empty except for me.

May will be great and you will meet a wonderful selection of people.

Buen Camino

@Gilmore Girl- I am in my mid-sixties as well and walked the Norte by myself from mid-May to late June this year. Like the others have said, being alone was not a problem. This year anyway May-June was great- other people around from time to time for company as well as plenty of solitude.

The water was very refreshing at the end of a hot day.
