Since I'm facing a knee replacement on the 17th, this is an inspiration that a Camino is possible!
The Spanish peregrino I’m walking the Camino Madrid with today and had has his knee recently replaced. He is young at 65 but I feel a little put out a 65 year old with a knee replacement keeps destroying me on pace and mileage and I’m a decade younger than him. And it’s effortless for him where I’m working hard to keep up.
Shows age (and knee replacement) is only a number.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I've had two knees replaced and put hundreds and hundreds of Camino miles since -- just do the physical therapy exercises like a new religion after your surgery and you will walk the Caminos again. At 80, I'm looking toward a possible Mozarabe in my near future...

Late to this discussion, but I had both knees replaced in 2017. We did the Frances in 2021 and it was wonderful to walk without that terrible pain. A camino is more than just possible! The most important thing in my opinion is to get as much mobility to the knee as you can. Aggressive physio! It will hurt to do it but will pay off. 10 weeks after the replacements we hiked 50 km in Waterton Lakes National Park, something I had not been able to do for many years.

I’ve been in Le Puy en Valey less than 5 hours and have seen dozens of hikers with dogs.. I think it’s great but .. every book I read says it an “absolute NO” at any of the places to stay. Just...
Dumb as it might seem, it's only recently sunk in that a good deal of some camino routes might be on vehicular roads rather than walking trails. I don't really mean the town and village-y bit...
