Anyone who could give me suggestions on where I could start my 100km walk to Santiago? I thought Leon to Santiago was 100km but I was informed it was 300km. Please advise.
I've been meaning to draw up a list of the places with a railway station on the various waymarked routes that are far enough away to qualify a walker for a compostela. Here it is, clockwise from Camino Frances:
* Camino Frances: Sarria (115km)
* Camino de Invierno: Monforte (ca 130km); Chantada is 100km, but no station (this route is waymarked but not yet officially adopted by the Xunta); joins Sanabres near Lalin
* Camino Sanabres, aka (not very accurately) Via de la Plata: Ourense (105km)
* Camino Portugues: Tui (106km)
* Muxia via Fisterra: 114km (Fisterra is 85km). No station anywhere nearer than Santiago, but I include this for completeness.
* Camino Ingles: Ferrol (115km) (Corunna branch is 86km)
* Camino de la Costa aka Camino del Norte: Baamonde (102km); joins Frances at Arzua
* Camino Primitivo: Lugo (102km); joins Frances at Palas de Rei
Distances given in various guides do differ slightly, but a reasonably fit walker should be able to complete one of these in a long weekend.
Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
