Today is All Souls' Day and who are you lighting a candle for? A special candle is lit for me in Holywood Belfast, in memory of my first great love who was murdered so long ago. The candles that I light myself are for my Father, Grandfather and Friends, Colleagues and for those who die unnecessarily in conflicts all over the world.🙏🕯🕯🕯🕯🙏

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I light candles for my friends and family. Preferably real candles and not electronic ones.

I have been doing this since my third camino when a friend asked me to light candles for his recently deceased father.

I lit this candle at Lourdes as I set out on my first Camino 11th September 2014…,in memory of my late wife Susan … I have since taken this image and her memory on pilgrimages all over the World , always remembered along with fellow pilgrims I have met and since died … May they rest in peace …IMG_1273.jpeg

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Ideal pocket guides for during and after your Camino. Each weighs just 40g (1.4 oz).
I will light them for my dear departed mother and father and a number of special aunts, uncles and cousins. It’s been a special week of remembrance for our heavenly and earthly saints.

Last Camino I did vicarie pro for the mother of a good friend whose health does not permit her to walk. I was going to light candles for her along the way, but my friend urgently entreated ne not to, saying their custom was to only light them for the deceased.

In my traditions we light fires ( make smoke / sparks) to light/mark the way for the ascendant one and spill wine to return their blood to the earth. The All Hallows’ tradition of placing a light in a window to guide the wanderer home… Not quite the same thing

I realize that over the years I’ve made smoke and spilled wine for some excellent members of this community ( whether they needed me to or not). I’ve lit candles at shrine along Camino too. I noted that every one I lit in remembrance of one old bugger of long acquaintance extinguished immediately in a sudden draft. He always did have a sense of humour
