Friends are planning their first Camino, and they've got three weeks to play with in September this year.

Based on my own experience, I'm recommending that they start in León or Astorga, giving them two weeks to make it to Santiago, walking about 15 miles a day.

That'll leave a week for transit days, enjoying Santiago itself, and some time in Finisterre/Muxía too.

Starting from London, the best option seems to be to fly into Madrid and take a train to Astorga or León.

Would you agree, or suggest an alternative?

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I like to walk less per day, but you know your friends

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Along with Santiago, León and Astorga were my favorite large towns on the Camino. Telling your friends to start in Leon so they get to experience both (and budgeting some time for them in Fisterra/Muxia too) sounds like the perfect itinerary.
