Women's World Cup Coverage?

Time of past OR future Camino
Planning to walk the French Way June/July 2015.
Just wondering if anyone knows if there will be coverage of the Women's World Cup (football) along the camino. I saw a few posts last year about watching the men's world cup, but I don't know if the Women's is popular enough to get coverage. Hope so!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Spain is in Group E and will be making its first visit to the Women's World Cup. All of the games will be available via satellite. But that won't be the problem. The TV audience for women's soccer is overwhelmingly American. Most matches will start in the evening --on American Eastern time. Which is -6 GMT. So you are looking at a first kick for most games between 10pm and 4am Camino time. Sorry if this isn't news you wanted to hear ...

Hopefully you get to stay at places that like women's football and will let you stay up late and watch the game.
In 2013 during the mens Eurocup, I was staying in Ages at Pajar de Ages, next door at the municipal albergue/bar/cafe/restaurant, the hospitalero was staying up late (2230 game time) to watch the game and let others watch the game and the beer was flowing along with yelling and screaming , the next morning, the table was covered in empty beer bottles, needless to say, there were a few that were hurting on the way into Burgos, this is the reason why they have curfew at 2200.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

The television is an integral part of cafe/bars and many restaurantes-sadly. Nobody ever watches the miserable godforsaken thing but it's on an flashing. If you can discover the channel, and if you have enough Spanish and if you have enough courage to face the expressions of the owner and friends and should somehow the hour be right, just ask! Morning coffee might allow the last 15 minutes of a game slightly delayed which began at 0400. PS if football, the CF is almost overwhelmingly Real Madrid - Messi and Barca are not words to be used injudiciously.

I do not agree. The other day we were attending Barça against Bayern München in the very far west of Galicia and everybody was supporting Barça. They regulairy support all Spanish teams as soon it it an international match. Patriotic you may say.
Most football matches are broadcasted and sent trough by Canal Plus in Spain .
A bar has to buy a licence to show the match on their public tv sets.
It could be possible that you are in a bar who has no licence , as we experienced some times. So no match to watch by then.

Barca is going too get more support in Navarre, Galicia and maybe some parts of the Beirzo. I was in Finisterre for the El Classico match where Barca routed them 5-0, even though it was a Monday night the whole town came alive and was partying into the early hours.

I still have warm feelings for el Barça since I worked in Catalunya for a couple of years.

The whole of Spain with possibly the exception of Athletic Bilbao fans either support Real or Barca, even if they are their 2nd Clubs. I have a soft spot for Espanyol not because of the Castellon connections but I can relate to supporting a team who will always be in the shadow of their larger neighbours'

In answer to the original question: It looks like eurosport has the rights to the Women's world cup in Spain.
http://www.marca.com/2015/05/28/futbol/futbol-femenino/mundial/1432804854.html

The article says they are showing 41 of the games live.

Here is a link to the eurosport schedule.

RTVE, the national television (runs La 1, La 2, and TDP among others) also has rights to show the spanish national team games.

What this means is when you are looking for a game, you want to be asking cafes, bars and restaurants if they have eurosport. I personally am not used to seeing eurosport on in bars and cafes here. Usually it's goltv, canal+, or the standard national channels. This all may mean that you might have a hard time tracking games down.

Good luck tracking games down!

When we were staying in Villar de Mazarife in 2013, a German peregrino got permission from the hospitalero for a late, that is post-curfew return, so he could go to a bar across the way to watch his team play. Good luck!
