From St Jean Pied-de-Port the day is vertical. And very beautiful. If the weather allows you to take the Napoleon Route.

Almost one kilometer up in the first ten, quite steep in some places. But it is the downhill to Roncesvalles that is marked with a caution.

The 30 litre pack pictured here proved to be light comfortable and adequate space for a Camino crossing.
