We found the Sanabres from Ourense to be similar. During our whole trip in June this year we met about five fellow pilgrims each day. We had a similar experience in the month before between Le Puy and St Jean PdP. It was such a shock to arrive in Santiago and be confronted by over two thousand...
Hi, I am looking at the new system. We are starting in Le Puy, walking to St Jean Pied de Port, and then closing with a walk into Santiago from Ourense. What would be the best way to register. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Hi dtoug, having done both: the Frances Camino from St Jean Pied de Port and the Portuguese from Lisbon, I think both have advantages for different reasons.
I liked the Camino Frances because of the people that I met. Friendships have formed that have continued. It starts with the difficult...
We walked from Lisboa in 2019 and posted a bag forward a few days at a time. So, Lisboa to Tomar, Tomar to Coimbra, and finally Coimbra to Porto. We found that the post office would hold the bag for two business days. It worked for us. Bon Caminoh!
We did the Camino Portuguese from Lisbon in 2019 and there was no bag transport on our stages between Lisbon and Porto. We ended up posting our bag a week ahead at a time to Tomar, then Coinbra and finally to Porto. It meant carrying everything for a week at a time. It worked for us.
Hi James, like you we prefer a flat walk with not too many hills or mountains. However, realistically, there are always hills at some point. We began the Camino Frances at St Jean Pied de Port and the first two days over the Pyrenees just about killed us even though we had thought we had done...
Some good advice above, especially about taking a companion. We walked from Lisbon two years ago and were careful when leaving the city, even as a couple (in our mid 60s). I think the walk from the cathedral to the bridge at Sacavém along the river is well worth while, and we always felt safe...
Never had a problem taking pacer poles at the bottom of our bags. They come apart and just fit diagonally. I have never been asked about them by the airlines. They are too long for carry-on baggage, so it means we sometimes have had to buy extra baggage on the cheaper "carry-on flights". Over a...
Hi Yamadons, I enjoyed your reflections. Having walked the CP earlier in the year (2019), I would endorse your use of the Wise Pilgrim App. It saved our bacon a number of times and is very simple to use. Thanks.
