The Unlikely Rise of the Pastel de Nata, and Why It’s Suddenly Everywhere

After leaving SdeC by car to head to Avila and beyond, I'm decided to drop down to Braga and stop for a few hours (which only adds an additional 2 hours to my trip and coming from S. California that's just a drop in the bucket). I've been researching food (if you knew me you'd expect that....)...

I’ll head over to Panda Express in two weeks to see if my cookies say anything about my Camino.

Where to store backpacks when arriving in Santiago?

I will. It turns out the hotel is on the back side of the Cathedral so right after thanking the Good Lord for a (hopefully) good Camino in the plaza I’ll head to the hotel then to the office. Hoping it won’t be crazy busy on May 9th. Thanks for the tips.

Where to store backpacks when arriving in Santiago?

I guess I meant checking it in at the consigna - I have no problem paying for storage, I just didn't want to have to haul it around for a few hours before checking into my hotel. I just didn't know it there was a minimum time limit on the length of storage.

Where to store backpacks when arriving in Santiago?

Trust me, I'm sure I'm stressing about everything right now.... do I know enough Spanish, will I have enough food on the Ingles, do I take the old route by Bar Julia or take the new route, blisters(?!), the best crossing from Ferrol to Pontedeume.... stuff that's keeping me awake at 2 in the...

Where to store backpacks when arriving in Santiago?

Tom - Just to clarity - I'll just need a place for a few hours after arriving in SdC before I can check into my hotel. Can I enter the Pilgrim Office with my pack, get my Compostela, etc., and then store my backpack for a few hours there while I eat, etc.? Will the people at the desk direct...

iPhone 4S to use for calls in Spain

Yes - it's unlocked so that's why I thought about taking it. Since I'll be in Spain sightseeing after the Camino I thought it would be nice to be able to call my hotel or car rental company without having to deal with the additional charges from ATT if I don't need to. Plus there's always the...

iPhone 4S to use for calls in Spain

OK - after scouring the forums and looking on line I can't figure out if I should/could take my old iPhone 4S to Spain to use only as a phone and maybe use a map app (I'd get a SIM card in Spain for the phone) or maybe get a cheap phone just for phone calls while there (2 weeks). I'm guessing...

Does Brierley's Camino Ingles Guide Show the 'Old' Route as Options?

Please thank John for us - and thanks for emailing him.

Does Brierley's Camino Ingles Guide Show the 'Old' Route as Options?

domigee - You are probably right about the new route on the last day - the Confraternity/Johnnie Walker book states that the most major changes in the Camino are between Betanzos/Bruma and Sigueriro/Santiago.

Does Brierley's Camino Ingles Guide Show the 'Old' Route as Options?

So when I got home from work yesterday, I dug through my pile of Camino stuff and found my John Brierly book and the Camino Ingles book I just received from the Confraternity of St. James and compared the two in regards to the route between Betanzos to Hospital de Bruma. The new Brierly book...

Does Brierley's Camino Ingles Guide Show the 'Old' Route as Options?

Thanks Dave for asking this question - I'm starting the Ingles on May 5th and with everything I've been reading about the route, I wanted to walk the "old" route as some members have mentioned the "new" route is not as peaceful, etc., as the old route. I was hoping to not use GPS on my camino...
