I remember Foncebadon in 2012. We were told the last person to live there (an elderly lady) had not long since died and it was empty. And so it was.

I passed through there in 1990 and even by then Maria was the sole resident. Her son lived with her part of the year but I was told he was away doing seasonal work in another part of the country. It was an extraordinary place back then.

I walked the CF in 2013 and really enjoyed the solitude and vastness of the Meseta. Back then, other pilgrims bemoaned the Meseta, some even skipping that portion. Fortunately, I met some wonderful pilgrims and stayed at some unforgettable family...
This is only my opinion and suggestion and if you don't agree or like it that is fine and dandy. It will not bother me in the least. For days we have been seeing posts about too many pilgrims, bottlenecks, bed races, etc.

To say that this place is a rip-off restaurant is going a bit far. The next time you go to eat somewhere I would ask for the price list and if you think it is too expensive you can leave.🙏🏻
Sorry that you had such a “traumatic” experience…. but even more sorry that for a few Euros/ dollars you were so concerned about being ripped off for breakfast that your energy was directed away from the beautiful coastal camino you are walking...
