If the Camino Frances stays crazy...
Honestly, we began the CF starting the second week of September last year, thinking the worst of the summer heat would be over. Wrong! We ended up walking in the dark to take advantage of the cooler temps. And you just can't beat those sunrises!- Helen from Montreal

Bed bugs!
...or maybe you do not "react" to the bites. Some people don't. I've finally worked out that my bites take about 36 hours to appear, but before I figured that out, I never knew which hostel or guest house actually had them.- Helen from Montreal

Yes, of course pilgrims bring them in (and carry them out, too), but if left unchecked once they come in for a visit--be it hostel, pension, albergue, or 5-star hotel--they can spread. I was bitten up the night of Sept 21 and caught a live bed bug, that I slipped into a baggie and brought to the management as we were leaving. No room in the albergues!
When the municipal albergue was full one day last week in Zubiri, they opened up a school and people were sleeping on cardboard in the school gym (according to some pilgrims we met on the way out the next day). No pilgrims, but I think I have bedbugs
Could be a flea. I am very allergic so I notice right away when I've been bitten. I am not on the Camino yet, but "training" in the town where I live. Last week I had a series of bites that ran from my ankle up to my waistline. Tea tree oil helps!- Helen from Montreal
