I have just re read your post and can add that the companies often quote for inclusive baggage transfer, but will reduce the rate when carrying your own kit,
It is easy to do the camino without a tour company but I understand any concerns. Macs adventures and comino ways have also been mentioned. Also check out newex (new experience holidays). They can also book the flights if required so there is that added security that they will cover for delayed/...
I agree with other comments about the heat in the summer - we walked from Montefiascone to Rome in July and it was intensely hot. The route has wonderful scenery, but nothing really in terms of places to stop for refreshments and no fountains etc so have to carry a lot of water. I also went...
Hi - we walked from Sarria the first time and then from Lugo the following year and both times booked accomodation using Macs Adventures. They sent all the information including the Brierly guide in advance and will transport your bags if required. We also travelled from Burgos last year and...
My husband lost his hat ast year and as a baldie had to get a new one in Astorga. He was initially annoyed and upset (it was a gift to him), but took comfort in the fact that someone else would get the benefit of it!
You will have a wonderful camino and don't worry about being alone, as that will only be the case if you wish it. Many people travel alone but meet friends along the way.
Buen camino
I understand your concerns. I walked with my husband who is usually fitter that I. We are both lawyers and talk a lot about work when we are at home. this changed along the Camino as I got fitter and stared to walk faster and work beame a distant memory. We started each day together and on...
Don't change your plans - just keep in touch with her regularly. Security will probably be heightened at airports etc, but there can be accidents in any walk of life and we cannot live in a state of constant fear. Paris is a wonderful city (as is Brussels), don't let recent tragic events spoil...
I have a turkish Hammam towel, which is lightwieght, cotton and is nice enough to use as a sarong. It dries quickly and is big enough to use as a blanket to lay on. All round good buy as I am not keen on the microfibre towels.
I walked in May last year and was expecting to be bitten - I did not see any and didn't get so much as a nibble. I did use Avon skin so soft oil which apparently they don't like.
The Parador is a great place for a bit of luxury after the camino and they do a reduced rate for pilgrims. I have also stayed in the Hotel Compostela on the outskirts of the old town and the San Francisco Hotel Monumento, which is beautiful with a fantastic church (just around the corner from...
I have over packed in the past and I know we all have our preferences!
I would take (or buy there/at airport) small nail scissors rather than scissors and clippers, then you can use then for nails and plasters. I have a swiss army type card (credit card size) which has scissors and a small torch...
I usually get blisters on a long walk, but this year I suffered less than usual. I taped my toes (I usually get blisters between them), put on a compeed barrier cream and wore a pair of thin trainer liners under my socks or double layered socks and it worked. I still got a couple of blisters but...
