Santiago to Zamora - Camino Sanabres

There are lots of flights from the UK to Madrid and I’ve just booked my train to Zamora though I am staying one night in Madrid and then catching the fast train at 10.04am the following day. It takes just over an hour. It’s just over two hours from Santiago to Zamora depending on the time of...

Tibial fracture after 600 km on French Camino

I took JB’s advice on my first Camino which was the French Way and walked at my own pace which I call a purposeful stroll. On the first day over the route Napoleon to Roncesvalles, I took 9 hours. Mind you I stopped a lot and had a very good lunch at Orisson. Also met a pilgrim who’d walked...

Are there Book swaps on the Camino. What book would you take.

One hundred years of Solitude, Gabriel García Márquez, The Queen of the Desert, Georgina Howell or if you like Art, The Hare with Amber Eyes, Edmund De Waal. All three take time to digest. Enjoy choosing. :)

Trains from Madrid Chamartin to Zamora help

Thank you to all of you who replied and liked my query and I can’t tell you how much better it made me feel, even if these questions come up time and time again. I just wanted to let you know that yes, as mentioned by J Willhouse, the tickets were available on the 18th! Thank you. I’ve...

Trains from Madrid Chamartin to Zamora help

Thank you for all your previous messages which I’ve now looked through where you’ve explained to others about the trains. I’m now feeling reassured somewhat that patience is needed and also thanks to Henry the dog re Trainline having the ability to get a notification so I’ll check that out.

Bathroom stops on the camino for female Peregrinas

I agree and do leave something as they loose quite a few toilet rolls due to pilgrims experiencing a shortfall at some albergues. Whilst this doesn’t excuse them, what goes round comes around so buy a drink or leave what you can for the Servicios!

    Bar Etiquette

I like your question! :) If you need the Servicios, then please buy something first unless it’s a busy bar and they won’t notice. The bars are often family owned and so you are walking into their home. Sometimes you have to ask for a key. That’s because pilgrims sometimes take the toilet...

Trains from Madrid Chamartin to Zamora help

Thanks for this but nothing from Atocha either. I will persevere but if I’m not mistaken work is being carried out until June. However there are trains in the afternoon but between 3 - 6 hours long sometimes with a bus rail replacement and I don’t want to hang around in Madrid. I will keep...

Trains from Madrid Chamartin to Zamora help

Hello, I’ve been trying to book a train from Madrid Chamartin/Attocha to Zamora for Sunday 2nd June for the past few weeks and Trainline and Rail Europe said no availability until yesterday and now a day later, Trainline says it’s sold out for 10:04am! The others just say no availability. Does...

    Madrid accommodation

SLEEP'N Atocha is a 2 star hotel within walking distance of the train station and opposite the hotel mediodia. I stayed there and thought it good value and if you have to leave early they give you a paper bag with breakfast in it to take away on request. Modern and clean and friendly staff.

    Finisterre or Muxia?

Cobblers! Introverts, extroverts! Let’s not go there! The bus in Finisterre is often crowded and you might not get on it as it’s the most popular of the two places. Often pilgrims take pot luck as to which town they go to since it’s new to them. As Christie&Elise mentions a liking for...

Ok entering the shoe debate with trepidation ...

Nails coming off sounds like you need a larger size shoe. You don’t have to wear boots either. I have thin ankles so I don’t like boots and wore walking shoes instead. In my case Lowe vibram gortex shoes and I went up a whole size. I’ve not had any blisters or nail problems so far but I also...
