Costco has 100% merino wool long sleeved shirts for sale in the fall for $20.00 Canadian. You have to watch for them - usually in October. They go fast!

Senior Walking the Portuguese Coastal Route in the Rain: Advice Needed

I find the hands free telescoping trekking umbrella sold in the Camino Forum store amazing for rain or sun. I used it for the first time in April and now I wouldn’t leave without it.

Advice needed: Am I getting enough hill training?

I just finished the Via Podiensis and CP. I found asphalt ( any hard surface ) walking, particularly on flat surface, very irritating to my plantar fascia. The first really bad day was the 20 km canal walk from Moissac After that I taped my plantar fascia with Leukotape. YouTube videos...

Looking for advice about Camino Le Puy

I second the choice to take the CELE Variant from Figeac. I loved it! I stayed an extra day in Figeac and took the 30 min train ride ( plus 4 km walk from train station ) to ROCAMADOR. Well worth it.

How are the Current Walking Conditions?

I have just finished the Spiritual Variante. I loved it! It is now very hot. I don’t have any long pants - just shorts and capris- and haven’t needed any. I do put on a long sleeved shirt in the evening because it is a bit cool ( for me). I started the day at 7:00 anm this morning with...

    Booking in Advance

I have just started the Camino Portuguese from Porto with no plan. I have just booked the next three days in advance and had no problem. I don’t know yet about further down on the route or about other months.

Mid 70 Male & Potential Issues

I find my sandals are noisy to put on at night so I have a pair of night time only socks by my bed and can walk silently out of the room. Don’t like walking in bare feet.

Reservations - how far in advance

Just arrived in St. Jean Pied de Port today and certainly after Cahors there were some empty beds in gites I stayed in. There are a few empty beds in my gite tonight.

    Trekking Umbrella - Availability

Right now on the Via Podiensis I am using the Handsfree Telescope Trekking umbrella I bought from the Forum Store. I love it! Great for rain and sun-I am using it almost every day. Stores easily on the side of my pack. When I know I am going to use it I tuck it in the belt of my waist pack...

Transportation from St. Jean Pied de Port to Porto

I will arrive in St Jean Pied de Port June 8 after walking the Via Podiensis. What is the best way to get from St.Jean to Porto? I am hoping in the time I have left to walk the Camino Portuguese. I do enjoy the train and seeing the country. ( I know it would be a long ride) What would...

    Kayak Marcilhac to Cabrarets

Yes, because that is me! I have kayaked on a lake but not a river. It was 20 km and I wasn’t sure if that would be too long but it wasn’t, perhaps because I had help from the current. I don’t know about the water level in Sept. You could discuss with the owner. It was a fun experience. Glad...

    Kayak Marcilhac to Cabrarets

Yesterday I kayaked from Marcilhac-Sur-CELE to Cabrarets. A great day! The river is higher right now but perfect for me. There are quite a few rapids but easily navigable with high water. There was one intimidating that I mentioned to the owner. It is soon after the straight metal bridge (...

    Booking and Apps/Books

I really like the Cicerone Guide in English. And the Wise Pilgrim map app which gives my location in real time. I am on the Via Podiensis right now. There was also a Forum posting listing all accommodations on the Via Podiensis. It was excellent. I am glad I have booked ahead as it is busy...
