    San Xil or Samos

I loved Samos - I met only one person on the walk in and no one the next day for kms and kms of magical walking on the way out. Vepsers was great and I even liked the albergue! A great hospitalerio while I was there, who made up for the lack of heating with the warmth of his welcome and the...

Good backpack for petite women? Help!

I ended up with the Lowe Alpine Airzone - also heavier than I might have liked, but fitted like a glove and I never regretted the extra weight on my camino March/April this year. I was slightly over the 10% weight but my pack was so comforatable it didnt seem to matter for me. I ended up...

osprey aura 50 vs osprey sirrus 36

Hi, my thought would be to buy her a gift certificate for the store and allow her to choose for herself. From reading reviews here and elsewhere before my camino in March this year, I had decided upon a Osprey Kestral 48. After actually trying it on and walking around the store with it loaded...

    How is San Bol?

I was in San Bol in April this year and it was one of my favourite places. There is a lovely new bathroom. Great paella dinner. There is a generator they turn on for an hour or two early evening for charging phones etc while the hospitaliero cooks, but otherwise no power and only candles for...

Comments please on some Camino backpack candidates!

I walked with the Lowe Alpine Airzone Centro 45 +10 in March to April this year and I loved it. It was the heaviest pack I tried on, but over several visits to the store I spent time walking around with a number of packs loaded with 10kg. This one felt better than any of the others - I hardly...

Things you couldnt have done without on the Camino

My trekking poles: great support, good for balancing when crossing streams and mud patches and useful for scaring away dogs. My sarong: top sheet in overheated dorms, wrap for dressing in not so private showers, curtain for side of bottom bunk, something to wear for that dash back to the pack...

    Spanish sim card in SJPP?

Not sure what country you come from, but I bought a Spanish SIM from the mobipassport website before I left. (I am from Australia) It was great value, I thought, and enabled me to text and call home when necessary, and also be contactable, which was necessary bacause of my family situation...

    Current weather

In Cebreiro now. Very wet but no snow anywhere but on distant peaks. Not nearly as cold as on the meseta a few days ago. 10c today. Paths muddy and wet. Pilgrims muddy and wet. All paths so far are passable. Weather looks to be improving in next few days according to the locals.

    12th March 2013

Hi, I am hoping to leave around March 18th - a few days after you. Echo the concerns about the weather and thinking of travelling to start from Pamplona instead of St Jean. Disappointed! :(
