    Positive experience at pilgrim office

This was my fourth compesela. They all have significance for me, but this one is special. Thank you and all the pilgrim staff for their service and compassion.

    Positive experience at pilgrim office

I just completed the Camino Fracis. I got to the pilgrim office in time to get my compesela, and had a very positive experience there. I dedicated my camino to a close cousin who recently passed away, and I was unable to attend his funeral. I carried his funeral card with me every step, and had...

    Cancelling Camino - Soliciting Advice

Lots of advice, here's my 2 cents worth. Go for it, if after a couple of days, you are struggling, consider luggage transfer. If that doesn't work, hop on the bus/train and take a day off. Don't cancel, use it as a test/learning experience. Enjoy

    When should I stop training?

I will be 72 this year, did my first camino as a 70th birthday 'doing something special' and am on my 4th camino. I have to remind myself how lucky I am to be able to do this. On my first camino, I was feeling a bit tired and sore when I met a lady walking with a prosthetic leg and arm crutches...

    When should I stop training?

I try to walk early in the morning with my pack, about 2 hours. Then carry on my normal day and at some point take a second hike of about an hour without my pack. My flight and train to get to my start point take a couple of days, so those are my rest days. I try for a slow start and after...

    Tips for first Camino

Hello, I did the same route as my first camino. I flew into Porto, arriving mid afternoon, so I walked from the airport, which is on the central route, about 10 or 12 kilos and stayed in Laburge. In the morning I walked the short distance to the coastal route and stayed on the coastal route the...

Pocket coin pouch for those EU coins?

I have two small leather pouches, the larger one I carry my id's, large bills and cards, no coins. It has a ring on it and I attach it inside my Fanny pack. The second smaller one I carry in my pants pocket with all the coins and only enough paper money for one day. If I was to loose it, no huge...

    Walking Poles

Hello, I like to collapse my poles when I get close to my accommodation and attach them to my pack. That way they don't get left behind or mistakingly taken, I get to keep them with me at my bunk on my pack! Enjoy 😉

    Questions to ask about shoes

There are some extensive threads on fitting footwear. I have walked in many different ones and found the trsil runners best for me. They have good cushion reasonable support and are light. I have high arches and don't wear any special insoles. I change socks at least once a day and seldom get...

    newbie seeking advice Camino Primitivo

Hello, I have walked both caminos in the last 18 months. They are both safe to walk alone and easy to navigate and not get lost. The primetivo has a lot more elevation changes, but good services and special views. Lugo is a special place to visit. If you choose this route, you should be aware...

    Suggestions from Lisbon

Hello, I have done porto to Santiago in September and found the weather to be very nice for walking. If you like the ocean scenery I recommend doing porto to Vigo. Doable in 7 days with excellent transportation at both places. I have also done lisbon to Santiago, later in the year and hit a lot...

Recommendations for a week in early March.

Maybe consider Porto to Vigo, on the coastal route. It would give you a good taste of what the camino is all about, with easy access to go and return. I'm a big fan of Portugal. Enjoy 😉

Accommodation options on the Camino Portuguese: To book or not to book?

All the routes of the Portuguese meet at Redondola, and from there I would book ahead. Also a lot of people start at Tui, or Redondola to get at least 100 kms and obtain a compesela, which makes it busier. Prior to that I don't think it would be necessary to book. Enjoy 😉

Senior Walking the Portuguese Coastal Route in the Rain: Advice Needed

I walked from Lisbon to Santiago last October and had 3 weeks of rain. Some of the paths were under water. Forces you to slow down, but no problems with blisters etc. I was wearing trail runners, and found they did dry well at night. Stayed in private hostels with heat!
