OMG, Portugal is one of the safest countries in the world one of the reasons I (single, older lady) moved here. My first Camino - Portuguese from Porto, May 2023
Absolutely take the coastal route out of Porto (even senda littoral). Going through Maia, dodging cars and spraining ankles on the cobblestones is not fun!! The only thing I liked about the cobblestones is that you could hear the cars coming!! Enjoy.- Lynn R Kelly

CF Changing the starting location?
I walked the Le Puy way in 2027 and 2018, 3 weeks each time. In 2018 I did not stop at SJPDP, but continued over the Pyrenees to Pamplona—much easier for me to do it while I was strong from the previous 2 weeks. (In May, it was still cold and rainy.) Camino Le Puy - Thermal baths in Lectoure
Maybe... In 2018, when I was in Lectoure finishing up the Le Puy way--everyone was required to have a bathing cap (I had to buy one!). Stayed an extra day in Lectoure especially for the thermal baths. Got a deal on a “pilgrim’s special” pool, special showers and gammas, plus a wonderful hour massage with especial care of my feet!! Loved it!- Lynn R Kelly
