Yes I witnessed such anger last week from a very unreasonable passenger to a flight attendant who was trying to solve a problem that included people with physical disabilities. The selfishness of some people at the moment is extraordinary!
That may be so, but I wonder about selection and training of volunteers. In my opinion, there's a difference between directness and rudeness and I experienced the latter on one occasion.

Ear plugs and an eye mask are essential when staying in albergues, in my experience. I know the frustration of not being able to sleep with the noise from others.
I would suggest you leave your poles at home and buy new ones in St. Jean at the start of your walk. They're relatively cheap, and when you finish you can leave them for another pilgrim to use so you won't have to carry them home. I did this and it gave me great pleasure! Buon Camino
