On the way to the lighthouse in Finisterre, on the right at about 2.5km, there is a marked path which goes uphill through the forest to Ermita de San Guillerme which is an ancient sacred site and to the nearby Piedras Santas and Ara Solis which are steeped in mythology including where fertility...
Love my buff. Followed the instructions which came with it. Turn inside out. Pull tube down over ears. Twist on top of head. Pull buff above twist down over ears - right side will be out. Kept my head and ears warm.
May not be the largest albergue on the Camino, but the Municipal in OCebriero in 2016 felt enormous to me. One big room with four double bunks touching with very narrow aisles between sets of bunks and gear had to be stored under and around bunks. Must have been at least 100 bunks. And it was...
Pendules is between Colombres and Llanes. There is a very scenic route variation along the cliffs with a blow hole (if the tide is right) which leads to Pendules. Check Gronze.com.
I had a “worker’s” yellow pack cover which had a fluro stripe. I also used it in the early morning (not before sunrise) and on overcast days when road walking as a safety measure.
For me the “awful” bit was the man made “paving“ stones after Espinal. It was a steep descent and the stones were slippery! Resting at the river crossing before Bizkarrete, I decided I would not push on to Zubiri (although I had stayed in Orisson and Ronscevalles). Stayed in a wonderful casa...
Left Australia before nominations closed for 2019 election. Attached copies of my boarding passes (expect flight itinerary would also be acceptable) to the “please explain” letter, posted it off and heard no more.
Walked from Porto and then inland at Vila do Conde in 2017. Planned to split the long stretch - Barcelos to Peunte da Lima at Casa da Fernando (no booking). It was raining and the casa was full. Fernando rang ahead trying to secure a bed but nothing. Ended up sharing a taxi to Peunte da Lima...
On my first Camino, I started to send my pack ahead until one day, I had overestimated my ability and struggled to reach the albergue where my pack was waiting for me. That night I felt like giving up. Decided that a solution would be to carry my own pack because I was probably carrying more...
Travelling from Darwin, my choices are limited. I always choose to leave Darwin in the afternoon, transit in Singapore (easy to pass time in this airport) and then on to Paris leaving around midnight so that you arrive early morning. Plenty of time to organise onward train travel to SJPDP or San...
Muxia is special. I can recommend Albergue Bela Muxia - spacious dormitories and bathrooms with private rooms available. Wonderful hospies. Every night there is a large pot of food prepared with love by the hospitalera for free - adds to the friendly ambience of this albergue.
Twice I have flown Singapore Air and CDG is their airport in Paris. In an earlier post, I outlined how I travel by ”the seat of my pants” and book onward train travel on arrival but prebook accommodation. Once, I had to travel to Montparnasse when wanting to travel on to San Sebastián due to no...
