    A little quiz

I'm not surprised to find Sarria at the top, but the absence of Irun/Hendaye - that was a revelation. Take care everyone

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

I think that's for the church to decide, it is, after all their pilgrimage - if you don't agree, why ask for the Compostela ? And as for "I can see how the Cathedral got into this situation" - wow

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

Whether some people like it or not, simply calling yourself a pilgrim, however you choose to travel doesn't cut it - just look at the conditions for the issuing of a Compostela - 100Kms min, religious/spiritual intent, mode of transport - would you dismiss these restrictions as well, or argue...

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

You implied it strongly, by attempting to shut down the discussion I'm bored with this now - it's obvious that bringing this up this is frowned upon for some reason, which is a pity, as for some of us, it strikes at the very heart of the matter

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

Your opinion is as valid as anyone else's - just not more....

Supposed to be starting el camino tomorrow....

It most certainly does.... Barcelona is a great place to be hanging out in - if you haven't been already, take a look at Tibidabo Hill - legend has it that it is there that Satan offered Christ the world, if He would bow down before him (thankfully he refused) - nowadays there's a great view...

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

    Awesome... :D

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

I wasn't aware that anyone was questioning the content of anyone's heart, or their faith/spirituality. I guess it's the element of personal sacrifice that is my "issue" For some one who doesn't want to [ get into the whole who is a "real pilgrim" argument again ], you do seem overly concerned...

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

You are, of course, right, let's not....but it's just a shame that certain opinions - i.e. "transporting your pack is OK" seem to be acceptable, and others i.e."transporting your pack (needlessly) is not OK" seem not to be...hmmm

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

Fair comment, but its not as simple as that, is it? Getting someone else to carry your pack when you're perfectly capable of doing it yourself is cheating - and puts you on a walking holiday, not a pilgrimage. That said, if you're not especially spiritually inclined, does it really matter ? (...

Supposed to be starting el camino tomorrow....

You could try splitting the Irun to San Sebastian stage into two, by stopping at Pasaje de San Juan (it's beautiful, btw). The descent into San Sebastian, I feel, would be best done without being tired and having a less than perfect foot...

Is carrying your own backpack a thing of the past?

Well said...pilgrimage or walking holiday, the way you do it *does* make a difference( It's not a pilgrimage just because that's what you want to tweet to all your mates back home )
  13. The Mouse of Getaria

    The Mouse of Getaria

The Mouse of Getaria, spotted whilst approaching Zarautz from Orio, in the Basque Country.

Comment by 'Simon Thompson' in media 'Can't believe it.'

Hahaha - that's just gonna put the idea into people's heads. Looks like a good spot for a quick turtle....

Comment by 'Simon Thompson' in media 'Gin & Tonic is the new Sangria'

That looks suspiciousy like the bar in Hotel Los Infantes, Santillana del Mar....
